I think everyone is missing the point here. The Leafs don't need project goalies or young prospect goalies, they have 2 of those. Anything less than a proven starter is just a lateral move.

There's not an owner in the league who would voluntarily continue to pay that much money to a backup. If he's not your starter he'll be traded for whatever another team will give for him.

No, but the market may not be as thin as people make it out to be. Florida did not sign Clemmenson ti open space for Markstrom. There are some good goalies coming up that will make others available. All shortages turn into surpluses in time. It is the nature of markets.

I'd rather use common sense. Generally speaking, people with lots of money aren't in the habit of throwing away millions of dollars when they don't have to. That's how they ended up with lots of money. If thinking they'll happily hold onto an overpaid, disgruntled backup goalie makes you feel better, be my guest.
