All I have to say is thank god Homer is our GM. Some of these proposed trades are ridiculous. If JVR gets traded it WILL be a mistake unless for a number one defender. I wouldnt give much more than JVR just for Nash.
I also don't see the flyers trading for a forward with Parise still being a remote possiblilty. The flyers can wait the 3 years for Ryan. If he is as close to the orgainization as people say, he will sign here then. |

1) JVR play on the top line, and couldn't stay there... Never deserved top line minutes.
2) We need to replace Jagr and use an JVR+ trade to land a top winger.
3) Not sure what "two young guys for one" or "three for one" that you are talking about? I assume you mean - Lose Jagr via UFA, and JVR + (another player) for top winger... While Jagr's gone. To gain a top winger you need to trade players, picks, or prospects. Not sure what it would take to land Ryan. But, I assume it's less than Nash. If we're going to trade someone... JVR was a non-factor last year, so it's really not replacing. Assuming ANA wouldn't take JVR for Ryan straight up... picks enough, or another player? I'd do Ryan for JVR and Read. Wellwood could fill in for some of what Read did. Ryan more than exceeds JVR role - a win for us. If they want Voracek, then Reads off the table and maybe a pick or Wellwood or Rinaldo... Who knows how it would shake out to be. - leon neon
The problem is that you are getting one offensive player for two offensive players is not helping the offense.
What we need to do is be patient. This was JvRs third season and he was unfortunately unlucky with the injury bug. Give him this season to see what he is made of. I bet we would be very happy. |

I don't think he'll be on the board at 45. Unless they use the #20 on Dansk (unlikely), I think Korpisalo could be a pick for them later. - bmeltzer
i take it Korpisalo is a goalie? |

Yes. See today's blog. A little more of a projection -- and ALL teenage goalies are projections -- than the top 3 but some have said he has Rinne-like qualities at the same age. Of course, Rinne was a pretty late bloomer, so it might be a pretty long wait even if works out that way. We all know how patient the Flyers are with young players' struggles, especially goaltenders.

I guess, then, that that was the biggest bonus.. because it effectively reduced his cap hit in half. - jak521
I beleive there was a bonus for average minutes played, and games played. Although I'm not positive. |

thanks, Bill. hopefully they can learn some patience as a result of watching many former players/draft picks skating around with the cup. |

with any player no matter what their star status is....it's the FIT with the team. Everyone is pining for Weber, let's play what if... what if her doesn't fit in and he cannot adjust his game?
The same could be said with Ryan, and Parise....or any other FA or tradeable player out there...
just because they can be had for the right trade doesn't mean they will FIT in with how Homer is building this team.
that's why i would rather take a wait and see approach. - phi1671
Not possible for Weber to not fit in. And he would not have to adjust his game. |

That's my favorite bit of logic that I read. JVR was a non factor last year, so we don't have to replace him. Cracks me up. That's the same as saying you don't need an injured player that was out of the lineup if a team makes a long playoff run. It's mind boggling.
JVR and Read for Ryan is a bad deal. I would pass. It's overpaying.

I was coaching a team once and went out and pick up a solid player, he didn't have to change his game because I knew why I picked him up. BUT, he didn't fit in with the rest of the team. So, the WHAT IF is there for any player in any sport even golf...LOL
the caddy may not be a good fit... |

No I understood it. There is no what if with top players such as Weber or Parise. |

As far as I know the other bonus was for AVERAGING 25 minutes a night. I was under the impression that one still applies to this upcoming season.

I think people are getting too caught up in the fact that he is a local kid.
