He wasn't a super off the board pick (at least based on TSN's) that it wouldn't have been risky if he's the guy you really want there.

I agree.

An NHL front office person -- who doesn't work for Flyers -- texted me that Laughton has a John Madden type of upside. If it works out that way, fine, Teams need those sorts of players.

Still, I think Flyers could have traded down and gotten same player if that's who they wanted.

the guy wasn't projected too far from where they picked by the "experts"....and as many have said, the Flyers can scout forwards in this position in the draft.

also...guys/gals...unless you're picking top 5 you're not really looking at a guy that's coming in and playing in the next year OR MORE. we need defense THIS YEAR. the Flyers couldn't move up to get the dman they wanted in the draft (who could have maybe stepped in this year depending) so they picked a player who they like and project in the years to come.

i dig the pick...reminds me of a Downie (minus the crazy) type pick...less an agitator tho, and more of a Richards kinda guy. but the Flyers pick these kind of guys in the 20's
