down to where? 25 or 26?
the guy wasn't projected too far from where they picked by the "experts"....and as many have said, the Flyers can scout forwards in this position in the draft.
- eshake
I think this draft, and many others have shown that teams don't put too much faith in experts...i.e. Teravainen
I just think it might've been worth the risk to drop down a few slots...even dropping 4-5 picks would get you an asset you didn't have before, and you can still get a comparable player. Who knows what the situation was...maybe there wasn't a team below them that valued anyone left on the board enough to trade up. |

I know nothing about this kid. But my guess is that they see something more in this kid then a checking Center. - MJL
Using Bill's analogy, i remember thecup teams with Madden and Holik. No reason to predict this kid's future, but that type of player can be invaluable. Mr mjl - werent you the one preaching that defense is a team effort. Hopefully this is a piece of that in two or three years. |

Maybe see how the kid turns out before making judgement. Or see what else happens. When has Holmgren not put a quality team on the ice? - MJL
Well its already slated in as 3rd, since G and Couts will be #1 and #2.
Couldve got that not miss prospect in Maata. Decided to pass.
Just frustrated. Ill be fine tomorrow. Im getting my frustration in now instead of when it happened. |

I agree.
An NHL front office person -- who doesn't work for Flyers -- texted me that Laughton has a John Madden type of upside. If it works out that way, fine, Teams need those sorts of players.
Still, I think Flyers could have traded down and gotten same player if that's who they wanted. - bmeltzer
That's why players don't go off the board exactly as the mock drafts predict. Different teams see the same player differently. I'm fairly certain the Flyers aren't hoping and praying their first round pick just maybe someday, with hard work and a few good breaks, turns into John Madden.

Yea, the "can't miss prospect" that slid down to #22 or whatever. Can't miss guys don't go past #10 or lower. |

I don't necessarily have a problem with the Madden comparison. Madden was a winner plain and simple - I do believe a three time cup winner. I'm not really concerned where the Flyers pick-up winning talent just as long as they continue to find it. |

I've gotta trust the Flyers with this pick. They have a pretty good track record when it comes to late first round picks. |
