Just to move up to 6 from 20 would cost you a player off the current roster. Schultz's rights might not cost all that much, but like you said, he's going to go where he can be guaranteed top-4 minutes and PP-time and that's not going to happen in Philly.

So Read/Simmonds/Voracek + 20th-overall + future 2nd-round pick might get you there... just to get a shot at Dumba (who has a very strong risk of being a bust) and Schultz (who probably won't sign).

4 NHL players (Read, JvR, Bob, and MaB/Gus) for 1 NHL player, and potential NHL players.. while giving up 2 firsts.

but you're not gettting their no. 6 pick for the 20th and read. Anahiem would be stupid just for entertaining that idea.

JVR and next year's pick doesn't land you ryan on its own either. The flyers are a playoff team as it is, so that pick is (at best) 17th, and at worst a 30th pick, if they should win it all.

This isn't 2008 when you had potential franchise D like Doughty, Bogosian, Pietrangelo and Schenn all in a row...

Even Ryan Murray, who still has a shot at being 1st-overall, doesn't project to be a franchise d-man. More like a very good #2-3. Where does that leave guys like Dumba (think Andy Delmore and Denis Gauthier's love child), Reilly (size), Reinhart (hasn't learned to use size, limited offensive upside), and Trouba (most likelye a pure defensive d-man)?

That's debatable in my opinion.  The Flyers have a big need for a defenseman like him.  He's got a right handed shot (which the Flyers don't have), and hits like a freight train.  He's only 22 as well, so he's getting better and has a lot of upside.  He's always among the league leaders in hits too.  And I don't wanna trade Schenn either.  I bought his jersey during the first round.  But Bobby Ryan in Philly, playing with Giroux would be magic.  I think those two are perfect for eachother.  Who's going to play wing with Giroux over the next few seasons?   JVR?  Maybe. But maybe isn't good enough.  That's why it seems like Holmgren is making a push to land Ryan or Nash.
