Pens lost Jordan Staal tonight, anyone claiming they had some incredible evening is clearly is delusional. - PLindbergh31
They had no choice. On a deal they were basically forced to make, they got a cheaper but still useful 3rd line center and two pretty good defense prospects to boot, then cleared out even more cap space with the Michalek move.
That's some real good work, IMO. Yes, they lose Staal and that hurts but team can now really go all out for Parise if they so desire.

When asked if a player in the system could be Flyers' backup, Paul Holmgren responds and says: "Michael Leighton is in our system." Well, OK - hammarby31
I just see Homer going back to his room and giggling maniacally after punking these guys. |

After all of the build up today was pretty anti-climatic. I dont believe the Flyers PR for one second though about Homers comments "somethings cooking". He's so secretive you know that he was trying to keep it hush hush and the press off his back. I really do believe it is Weber he's trying to get. - Flyers1218
I'm pretty sure Poile knows right now whether he can sign Weber long-term or not right now. |

Some draftniks feel Laughton would have been available in second round when #Flyers pick at No. 45 overall.

Penguins cleared $8M off the salary cap tonight with Staal and Z. Michalek gone. - stveshdy
Some draftniks were wrong about every pick from 4-12. |

Bill, you have to believe Parise is going to get max money in the first couple of years in his new contract similiar to Brad Richards correct? |

Yes, in all likelihood. Pens are in a real strong position to do it now. |

Just don't see Parise going to an Atlantic division team. And Nash? Who do they trade for him off their current roster? Neal, Dupuis?? They'd have to trade Depres or one of the new guys they got right? |

Huh what? How are we filling the voids left by all those players? Ryan alone does not do it for those departed forwards. |

I know a lot of people are wondering what the hell with this pick?
It means one thing kiss schenner goodbye.
in 2/3 years when Danny retires/gone here are your centers
1-G
2-Couts
3-L (this pick)
As much as we all want
G-Schenn-Couts that a lot of talent to put on a third line center.
i get the feeling that the next 2 1st rounders arent going to be available....
Homers going to make a mega deal folks.....book it. Lets face it flyers cant develop D-Men worth poop but the sure know how to pluck them from other teams..... |

At the start of last year, Schenn was considered to be the best player not playing in the NHL. I don't think he has done anything to diminish his perceived ceiling, if he is now a trading chip, there might not be as many draft picks going back in a deal. |
