Far too much is being made of Voracek being unsigned at this point. It's just negotiations. And Voracek has zero finsih? I'd hardly call 18 goals as having zero finish. And I hope your right about Wellwood having more finish. So what should we exepct from Wellwood this upcoming Season? 20 goals? - MJL
I personally really liked Voracek's game late in the season and playoffs. I know the team is still trying to get him to shoot more, but he was a lot better than in the early part. He's one of our better forwards IMO. Sign him at a small raise and then see if he progresses again this year. I think he will. |

Coburn is not a deal breaker in my opinion. Coburn instead of Meszaros just means I ask for more coming back. If you think about our Defense, we need what Meszaros brings more then Coburn.
Defensive minded Guys:
Coburn
Grossmann
Schenn
Passing Guys
Timonen
Carle
Shoot First Guys
Meszaros
Gustefsson - RooNosHockey
That's a first. Defenseman described as shoot first guys. |

will do.
I have a feeling Parise and Suter are going to land in Pittsburgh. - flyersfan51
I guess they aren't going to extend Crosby and Malkin then are they. One, and maybe one, will end up in Pittsburgh. I don't see either of them there though. I see Yandle on their team though next year. |

you know, they could have both A and B. Just because you have Ryan and Giroux does not mean the rest of the team isn't well balanced. |

Re-sign Voracek. Sign Carle and call it a summer. - Pixote Andolini
I'd also like a backup goalie not named Leighton, but that's it. I'd be happy to re-sign Jake, sign a backup, and then reassess at the deadline. |

I just DO NOT want to see the Flyers basically giving up one of their top 4 to get Ryan. To me that is so counter productive.
And yes, with Timonen's age and durability becoming a factor, Coburn and Mezz will be top 4 this season at some point. - MBFlyerfan
I agree, without a clear cut #1 D-man the Flyers will need as much depth on the back end as possible. Timonen breaking down is also another reason why Coburn or Meszaros should not be traded. Like I said before this is the only deal I'd be comfortable doing for Ryan:
TO ANA: Voracek, Bourdon, 2013 1st
TO PHI: Ryan |

How quickly you guys forget how good Mesz is. Voted the best Flyers Defense man 2 years ago and was playing great before the injury this year. Everyone said we needed defense but if we trade Coburn/Mesz for Ryan and try replacing one of them with Luke Schenn our defense gets worse. - Ethan1122
Yep. Often the grass is greener on the other side, only to find a defenseman who IS as bad as the scapegoat is perceived to be. |

That's what I wanted to get clarity on...
Bill said "...they will be left a bit less than $3 million of cap space... The remaining space plus some of the eventual Pronger LTIR allowance could be used to re-sign Jaromir Jagr for one more year..."
This sounds like they have the $3MM plus all of Prongers $4.9MM. Or, is it only portion of Prongers Salary?

wow. so we traded a 30 goal scorer for a bottom pair defensemen. ouch. - flyersfan51
As I said the other day, if JVR doesn't improve at all, he's still a top 6 forward that will score 20-25 goals. If Schenn doesn't improve at all he's a 5/6 d-man.
Clearly, the Flyers are banking on him improving, which I think is a fair expectation. But right now, today, we traded a top 6 forward for a 5/6 d-man. |

Coburn is a good skater too while Grossman is relatively slow. Also, Schenn is yet unproven. Gustafsson is okay across the board. There is nothing he does particularly well. Moving Coburn to get Ryan hurts the team IMO. - NickTheKid87
Schenn is proven enough to know he is physical. 7th in the league in hits. He blocks shots, which I'm sure Timonen and Carle will love. Lilija, Bourdon, and Gusteffson all are more then capable of being bottom pair players on a regular basis. Even if there are 2 injuries in our top 2, I would be comfortable having 2 of those guys on a bottom 6. Remember when we went on that streak of awesome defensive play in March, it was with Bourdon/Manning and Lilja playing in the bottom 6. |

Too bad Read's value isn't as high as Jakes. Looking at the long-term once Briere and Hartsy are gone, I like Jake's skillset. We really do need a sniper, so Ryan makes sense. But Jake would be nice to have too.
Ryan - G - Schenn
Simmonds - Couts - Vorachek
XXX / Talbot - Laughton - Cousins / XXX
I like having Jake's skillset vs. Reads.
But who knows what else they would do in a few years too. |

In Anaheim, he's played with a Hart Trophy winner and a center who has topped 50 assists four times as his linemates and has never topped 35 goals in a seaspm.
I think he might be able to get 38-40 goals in a given season if he plays with Giroux but a 15 goal jump from his best season to date? Unlikely, IMO. - bmeltzer
No, Bill on my X-box 360 i already simulated a whole season and he gets 52 goals 163 assists for 215 pts! It's Ea Sports, it's in the game and it tells you everything you need to know! |

ugh. I was sarcastically overstating Voracek having 0 finish, but his goals were not the goal scorer's goal variety. A lot came from defelections, screened goalies, and some luckey shots. Maybe not all, but most.
As for Wellwood. I have no idea what he can do. His speed is killer, and if he can just learn some moves maybe 20 isnt out of the question.... |

Defense and, more importantly, TEAM defense were a big issue in 2011-12. Adding Ryan, a marginal defensive player at best and subtracting the best defensive player they have in Coburn seems counterproductive. It's not like we need Ryan's offense either. It just doesn't make sense to move something we need like Coburn (or a good two-way player like Voracek) for something that would make an already strong area stronger. |

What's better?
A) To have an Art Ross player on your team in Giroux and a Maurice Richard trophy winner on his wing in Ryan
or
B) Well balanced scoring depth throughout the lineup & a Stanley Cup
Stamkos had a great season last year...and not one playoff game. - Pixote Andolini
I think this is a bit of an overreaction. I love Jake. But trading him and picks for Bobby Ryan isn't going to lose the Flyers a Stanley Cup. Just a great forward replacing a good one. |

That's a first. Defenseman described as shoot first guys. - MJL
I think offensive minded defenseman is to generic. For example, you have Carle and Timonen who are a great passers, but they dont have the shot to score goals. While Meszaros and Bourdon might not be the best passers, but they have a pretty good shot. That is what I was trying to say. |

The problem is Anaheim needed defense even before they traded Visnovsky. Now they need someone to step in and be ready to play now. So it is going to have to be one of our top 4 if you want Ryan. I want him. I am not convinced Hartnell can repeat the magic from last year, and I would be even more shocked if he could do it if they dont resign Jagr. |
