Agree with Bill yet again. Don't need to do anything crazy. Ryan would be a nice addition to play with G but he's not essential for this team to succeed. |

No, I don't expect any major news today. But whenever a blog plan has to be changed, there are inevitably a few folks who ask what happened to the planned column. I'm still waiting for a few people to get back to me on the Flyers' draftees. I don't want the blog just to rehash what you can already find elsewhere.
I'm sure there will be a Luke Schenn PC/photo opp, yes. Don't know a date yet.

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Cap Update - bmeltzer
So, actually they have the $3MM plus Prongers $4.9MM to spend. Along with any other they demote to AHL on day one - such as if desired - Homer could send Shelley's $1.1MM to the AHL. But, anything they put on LTIR or plan to send demote must be within the 10%.
If this is true, Homer could for-go the $3+MM to Jagr and grab somebody for $7.9MM. But, this puts them right up to the cap limit.
Also, If the Ryan to Philly rumors were correct. And, we could land him for - let's say Voracek and picks/prospects... Ryan's $5.1MM, minus what we would have payed Voracek... the remainder could be taken from Prongers freed up space.

I like him a lot as a player but I don't know if he'll be worth the money he wants given his age. I believe he said he wants a 4 year deal too which is too long for my taste. |

Bill, what about the Kovar's situation?
Drafted by the Flyers, stayed home and now #1 on the W-Champs. He can not reach anything higher here in Europe..
Any possibility from the Flyers to try to bring him oversea? |

Not sure how I feel about going into this season without either Jagr or JVR. If we can go out and get Ryan or sign Parise then I will feel better. |

If Ryan continues to talk the way hes been talking no other team would trade for him...He wants to come to the flyers and like staal i think the best deal they are going to get is from the flyers. Who wants to trade prospects picks and players for a guy who will only play there for three years and ultimately will leave to sign with the flyers. |

I don't think the Flyers have Kovar's rights anymore. I could be wrong though. |

They won't have that much. What Bill says is about what they'll have. |

The Flyers would probably have to include a NHL defenseman in any Ryan trade |

so you think he will eventually be a flyer? I love Voracek, but I'd definitely trade him for Ryan. We might still have some cash to sign another mid range forward. But I don't think I'd put Hartnell and Ryan on the same line.
Read - Giroux - Ryan
Hartnell - Briere - Simmonds
Wellwood - Schenn - Whitney
Talbot - Coots - Zolnierczyk
Grossmann - Coburn
Timonen - Schenn
Meszaros - Gustaffson/Bourdon
