So, if we trade Mez and Jake for Ryan, sign Carle for 5 mil, Harry Z for 800,000, MAB for 900,000 and Sestitio for 600,000 that leaves us with about 9 mil in cap space. Is my math right? - Jimmygrazz
I'd want nothing to do with Carle at 5 million. |

I would not be happy with that. |

I don't want Couturier on the 4th line again this year and I don't think management does either. - NickTheKid87
No chance of that. |

Speculation say it will be a little under 5M for Carle. Whcih would be an excellent deal for Carle. |

Yes, he's making 4M. And you won't get Wideman for 4M. |

I personally think that voracek and Coburn are worth more to this team than Bobby Ryan - jak521
Good point. I think it would be exciting to see what Giroux could do with a natural scorer, especially one as talented as Bobby Ryan, but G doesn't really need one. He got Hartsy to 37 goals after all. I wouldn't compromise the team's defensive game too much for Ryan. |

Well, as I understand it sounds like a Carle signing at somewhere between four and five million is impending, so prepare for disappointment. |

yeah, I wouldn't pay Wideman 4....I don't think he's worth that -- and the guy from FLA is going to get around that too (garrison?), I guess maybe Mesz is worth it -- but if they are going to sign Carle, then I'd be happy trading Mesz for Ryan.

Wideman's getting $5m minimum. He's the best UFA defenseman available after Suter. He'll get overpaid. |

IF the Flyers could get Schultz, and I don't think they do by the way, then I'd be ok with Coburn + Cousins/Lawton/Gusty/Bourdon + 1st.
Short-term is risky giving up Coburn for Schultz, but long-term could be really sweet. |

Very hard for the Flyers to beat the Rangers on a deal for Ryan. The Rangers have some nice Dmen and some strong prospects.
What I don't understand is the rationale behind the Ducks sending Visnofsky to the Islanders. Why would they deal their best Dman if they have a need for Dmen? Is it just a salary dump, or are they setting something up? Also there is some speculation they want picks and prospects, no salary back other than prospects on an ELC. |

I don't think Shero trades Michalek without a sense that he could land Suter and / or Parisi. |

He's also pretty scary in his own end of the ice at times, as Boston and Florida can attest.

I'm surprised Schultz hasn't been signed yet.....
But in regards to Bobby Ryan, he's averaging over 30 goals a year, is the deal mentioned above enough? I don't think so. |

If the Flyers could get a lesser natural goal scorer to play with G instead of Ryan, I'm all for it. Get a guy like Jonathan Cheechoo was for Joe Thornton. Someone along the lines of Grabner, Hornqvist, Ryder or even give Read a shot on the top line. |

My view on Bobby Ryan is simply this.
He wants to be here. He hasn't lived up to his full potential due to lack of help offensively (Playing the second PP unit and Getzlaf is often hurt). I think in the right situation he could be a 50 goal scorer and a consistent one. Let's not forget this guy was picked second overall to Sidney Crosby. If this guy is stuck at only scoring 30 a season, this isn't a far cry from JvR not being able to get over the hump after being picked second to Patrick Kane. In my opinion we're in need of a sniper, which I don't think we've had since Jeff Carter. For me, I just wouldn't do it at the cost of Coburn. I'm not sure where we would have been without him in the playoffs. I do like Jake Voracek but I'm not crazy about him signing one year deals to get a raise the next year. I don't want to pay 3 plus million for Voracek at all. I'm not saying he's a bad player but I am saying we could use a guy who knows how to put the puck into the net. |

I love stuff like this:
http://hockeyanalysis.com...hl-free-agent-defensemen/
Matt Carle is the top offensive player available and is a solid defensive player as well and is quite likely the best defenseman available, though everyone believes he will re-sign in Philadelphia and may already have a deal agreed upon but can’t sign it until July 1st due to salary cap issues. Ryan Suter doesn’t have the offense of Carle but is a better defensive player and can also play big minutes. After those two top end big minute defensemen you get a group of lesser minute guys who seem to be quite capable defensively. These include Lepisto, Garrison, Woywitka, Colaiacovo, O’Brien, and Gilroy. If Garrison can repeat his offensive season of 2011-12 then he is probably the top defenseman after Suter and Carle and Colaiacovo would be right there as well. Guys to avoid include Bruno Gervais, Milan Jurcina, Aaron Johnson, Dylan Reese, and Dennis Wideman. If you are looking for a guy who can play secondary offensive minutes maybe Shaone Morrisonn is your guy, but don’t expect him to contribute defensively.

than that's better for the flyers.....
I think the reason other teams might be hesitant is because Ryan keeps saying he'd prefer to play in Philly, so if teams give up a lot for him, he might just leave in 3 years to sign with Philly. |
