Thinking about that Read, Mezzy and a 1rst deal......If they could make the 1rst a 2nd, i make that deal. Our defense will still be fine. Our offense will still be great. Bryz I feel will be better this year. We would still have money to get another dman or more offense. Next year we could get that really really good dman. I think Homer is icing a team that can build on the 2nd round ousting this year and take it all next year. He really is getting closer. |

Why would they trade him?
They're building their d corps around Sbisa and Fowler. |

They will have ample money to sign a blue-line replacement via FA too. |

I don't believe that Holmgren offered Mez, Read, and a 1st because if he did Anaheim would be dumb not to take it IMO. - eayost
It isn't the dumbest thing the past 3 days though. Columbus turning down another teams entire draft for the 2nd pick was the dumbest...

So if the "rumored" deal was done, and you resign Carle for 5 (but heard 4.5) and Jagr for 3... and Voracek for 3.5. And counting Schenn at 3.1, then the total cap hit would be 68.87 and that includes our extras.
Take away 1.5 from Schenn, and 1.5 from the extra extras, and hope for the deal from Carle, and your talking 65.37 million. Almost 4 million in cap Space to get a decent d-man. - RooNosHockey
Do your number account for Prongers $4.9MM... Or demote Shelley, and gain $1.1MM. |

I bet Rick Nash's cap hit is much more managable then Steve Nash's. |

I think he sees 2013-2014 as our year. We could put together another great year this year and maybe hit the ECF. These young guys getting all this experience is great. |

It'd be fun to have Ryan, but I'd rather have 6 real defensemen (assuming Carle is re-signed). I'd just use free agency to fill out the forwards corps and go with it. These guys we already have will find ways to score goals |

I think the front office here sees every year as "our year".
Will we be better positioned to win the Cup in future years though? Most likely. |

Again, after a Ryan trade the Flyers would have plenty of financial felxibility to sign a second-pair d-man via FA. |
