Sometimes you have to call a bluff. Yea, but answering with that in mind, gun to my head and that premise, I'd say no. |

Knowing Homer's propensity for wanting to get ahead of the game, I would lean slightly towards Homer making a move before July 1st. I know there is a lot of chatter about Ryan, but I'm sure he is doing his due diligence discussing other possible opportunites. I have to believe he has at least inquired about Evander Kane. - ravishingone
And, I wouldn't necessarily take Nash off the table. I believe Homer is going after the best winger possible. He's got a lot of pieces in place, so he's probably not too interested in trading away a bunch of players only to have gaps. So, he'll be looking at UFA first - unless a sweetheart deal drops in his lap. According to Seravalli... The sky's the limit with $9MM. (Not sure why his numbers are so far off of Bill's $3MM cap space)
Frank Seravalli says we've got $9MM to spend on a forward... This includes resigning Voracek (@ $3MM) and Carle (@ $4.5MM). I don't think he's included some of the minor RFA / AHL guys (Sestito/HarryZ./etc..)

And I don't think he should be. I won't mind if he comes back. Because I felt he did a lot of good things here. And he was a positive influence. But a lot depends on the options in place. My first wish is for a #1 defenseman. Don't know if that's in the cards now. Second then is a UFA Winger. Which can be done without giving up youth. But I'd prefer a more permanent option then Jagr. - MJL
UFAs wingers, I believe comes down to 5 options: (no particular order)
1. Parise
2. Doan
3. Semin
4. Parenteau
5. Jagr
Certainly Parise is the most desirable, but his cap hit and amount of years is going to be very high. I don't believe Doan leaves the Coyotes, I just don't see it. So, do you believe the Flyers would have any interest in the other two outside of Jagr? I'm curious for feedback because I really don't know. |

Well here's a sample roster using Capgeek I put together.
CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER
My Custom Lineup
FORWARDS
Scott Hartnell ($4.200m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Zach Parise ($7.500m)
Jakub Voracek ($3.000m) / Danny Briere ($6.500m) / Wayne Simmonds ($1.750m)
Eric Wellwood ($0.580m) / Brayden Schenn ($3.110m) / Matt Read ($0.900m)
Zac Rinaldo ($0.544m) / Sean Couturier ($1.375m) / Maxime Talbot ($1.750m)
DEFENSEMEN
Kimmo Timonen ($6.333m) / Andrej Meszaros ($4.000m)
Braydon Coburn ($4.500m) / Nicklas Grossmann ($3.500m)
Luke Schenn ($3.600m) / Matt Carle ($4.750m)
Andreas Lilja ($0.738m) /
GOALTENDERS
Ilya Bryzgalov ($5.667m)
Martin Biron ($0.875m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $70,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $68,921,944; BONUSES: $2,705,000
CAP SPACE (21-man roster): $1,378,056
The problem is really the Off Season Cap. Which I made a calculation the other night as being $64,324,224, currently. When you add in the moves I made above. That would put the Flyers at $78,199,224. Which is over the off season limit of $77,000,030.
Of course I had to estimate the Cap hits of Parise, Carle, Biron and Voracek. |

What's wrong with that... Should we not include Prongers money into what we can spend. Pronger money fits within the 10%, and once the season starts - Pronger money come off the cap as the 10% goes away... |

Okay, considering the Flyers will be bidding against the Pens, Wings, Devils, and Wild, how far do you think the Flyers should go? Quite possibly, the contract could be 10 yrs or longer and still the cap hit could be around 7 million. Would you still sign him? |

So, their about $1.2MM over the cap plus 10%... I'm sure Homer can get creative and overcome that...

No, not for that. The whole reason to go 10 years is to lower the AAV. If the Cap hit is still that high on a 10 year deal, I would not be in favor of it.

Plus 10%? The numbers are the numbers. Estimated by me of course. The Flyers would have to make some deals such as moving a guy like Bartulis, or possibly Gustafsson or Bourdon.

Not really. Timonen's deal is going to expire. You have to look down the road into the future. And if in the future, you want to make a deal for a top player, you have some assets and some depth to deal. |

It's obvious that the Coaches want Carle to play top minutes on the team. As he has played well over 20 minutes a game for the last 3 Seasons as a Flyer. - MJL
Top minutes is top minutes as in, the most, or the highest number of minutes. I doubt the team's coaches (or GM) want Carle to be in that spot. Now, if you want to say top 4 minutes, yes, I'm sure the coaches want Carle somewhere in that top 4 minutes mix, where he's been for the past few years.
Obviously, Carle shouldn't be leading a team in ice time. That should be for a legitimate #1 defenseman. Which I agree, due to the injuries, the team had to extend Carle's minutes. And Carle stepped up and did well. Especially being paired with a raw Rookie for 40 games. - MJL
I think Carle did a fair job doing what was asked of him in playing over his head in top overall TOI this season. While he didn't step up and show he's a #1 type D man, he didn't fold completely under the weight of the task. FWIW, I don't really buy into those saying rookie Bourdon was some big challenge that Carle had to deal with. Bourdon has shown me flashes of being a very good player and, in some ways, I think he showed potential to be better than Carle.
And I disagree completely that Carle was only playing those minutes because the Coaches trust Carle to get more minutes than the rookies and hobbled vets. Carle is a 20+ minute a game defensman because he is a very good defenseman. - MJL
It's just the reality of the situation. Are you really saying if Pronger and Timonen and Mez were all 100% all season that Carle would still have had highest TOI/gm on the team? I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on that one. |

I understand, the reason I feel the cap hit will still be that high is because of the competition in particular the Wings. Mike Ilitch has extremely deep pockets like the Flyers so there advantage of front loading contracts is minimized. I still think Parise gets somewhere around $7 million even at a term of 10 years. |
