Not really. Timonen's deal is going to expire. You have to look down the road into the future. - MJL
Thats still a lot of money tied up in your defense. I'm looking down the road and it may be worse once Timonen comes off the books. They could be spending more money on defense if Weber becomes available.

And they then can turn around and trade a defenseman for some future assets.
I doubt that's going to happen. And that has zero effect on the off season Cap. The Cap for the Season is not a problem. Plenty of wiggle room there. - MJL
I believe his cap hit falls some if he does. Anywho, I still think your roster is fine
I agree and looking at Homer's past track record of trading for player's rights before July 1st, doing his deadline deals usually a week before the deadline, I'm pretty confident he will be out of the Parise sweepstakes.
Top minutes is top minutes as in, the most, or the highest number of minutes. I doubt the team's coaches (or GM) want Carle to be in that spot. Now, if you want to say top 4 minutes, yes, I'm sure the coaches want Carle somewhere in that top 4 minutes mix, where he's been for the past few years.

Top minutes as in among the leaders on the defense. And among the leaders on the team in ice time.
I think Carle did a fair job doing what was asked of him in playing over his head in top overall TOI this season. While he didn't step up and show he's a #1 type D man, he didn't fold completely under the weight of the task. FWIW, I don't really buy into those saying rookie Bourdon was some big challenge that Carle had to deal with. Bourdon has shown me flashes of being a very good player and, in some ways, I think he showed potential to be better than Carle.

Nobody thinks that Carle is a #1 defenseman. Nor does anyone expect him to play at that level. Having an inexperienced and green rookie is definitely a factor in a pairing's overall play.
I hope your right about Bourdon having potential to be better then Carle. You never know. But I have my doubts.
It's just the reality of the situation. Are you really saying if Pronger and Timonen and Mez were all 100% all season that Carle would still have had highest TOI/gm on the team? I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on that one. - phantasm

I like Parise a lot just not sure the Flyers are going to be able to spend that kind of money unless they move a player.

UFAs wingers, I believe comes down to 5 options: (no particular order)
1. Parise
2. Doan
3. Semin
4. Parenteau
5. Jagr
Certainly Parise is the most desirable, but his cap hit and amount of years is going to be very high. I don't believe Doan leaves the Coyotes, I just don't see it. So, do you believe the Flyers would have any interest in the other two outside of Jagr? I'm curious for feedback because I really don't know. - ravishingone
I would much rather they go after a defensive oriented forward with some size. Rather than blowing up the cap signing Parise or Semin.

The thing with Parise is his style of play doesn't make me feel comfortable doling out a long term deal. He plays so hard, reckless even, theres a good chance he wont hold up over the length. Of course he will be commanding top dollar.

He is going to be the top FA available, certainly with big market teams willing to spend, Parise will be over paid. For the Flyers, it certainly looks like they want a better scoring winger for G to play alongside. From everything I have read, they don't believe they can fill that spot with anyone on the roster right now. I think Jagr is a fall back option for that position if all other avenues fail.
I think acquiring Bobby Ryan is the most logical answer right now, but certainly things can change between now and July 1st.
