I like Ray, he certainly gave Staal a very good contract offer. As a Flyers fan, I can't say that I'm that upset about him being in Carolina with his brother.

Carolina is getting a really great player and we got cap space and maybe a better 3rd line center for this team +. Good trade all around.

Under the circumstances, I thought Ray did a great job on the trade. I think Jordan can be close to an 80 pt or even a little better player in Carolina. I think the Michalek trade is a calculated gamble. I understand the need to gain cap space, but there really isn't a lot of options in free agency to upgrade the d position. Maybe Ray can trade a couple of his 6 d prospects for someone already on an NHL roster. I doubt there was a lot of interest for Martin, I thought maybe they would have tried to move Orpik before Michalek.

Once again we are trading away premium talent to replesnish with- Free Agent. As in we don't know who that would be. The fact that the 5/6 defensemen have been a problem over the years I'd say we better have our ducks in a row before we start shipping off players we need for those we don't i.e 8 more points.

So your telling me they cant find any quality free agent defenseman available? Doesnt have to be one of those players. There are plenty of 5/6 defenseman out there. There are other teams in the league and some that actually win a cup with defenseman that arent just name guys. Have to find a player that fits into what your trying to do.
