Jake is an absolute must re-sign for Philadelphia.
He can skate, weave and hold on to the puck just about as well as G and he's even better than G at other things. He can fly out there. You need a secondary playmaking type player after G and he is just that. Matching up against Philadelphia is equally as difficult with such puck/playmaking high-end skill players. |

if they could trade for Ryan and keep Voracek, wow.....If they could trade Mesz/Laughton/Cousins and 1st for Ryan.....I'd be one happy flyer fan.
then they could sign Carle and have $$ for another D-man possibly....they wouldn't need another forward....I just feel that Read or Voracek are going to go if they are getting Ryan. - flyersfan51
Yeah, I worry that Holmgren still feels like he needs to make a splash. I think he overpays a bit when he is trading FOR the better player and seems to do better on deals when he is trading the better player for assets (Forsberg, Zhitnik, Carter, Richards deals).
If Pitts does anything, then he will overpay.
I just hope Ryan keeps saying great things about Philly and maybe scares off other teams. |

my guess is nothing happens until sunday -- if they don't get Parise, they'll get Ryan. I bet one of them will be flyers in the next two weeks. |

The Ducks aren't going to trade him to the Flyers because that's his first choice. They also don't care that Clarke has known him since he was a baby and Holmgren for nearly as long. Anaheim will trade him where they please, depending on the return they receive. Ryan has never said he wouldn't play for the Rangers or any other club, just that Philly might be the ideal situation. - bmeltzer
Bill,
Im sure his comments hurt his overall value. I never said he wouldn't play for another team or be good, but if im another team and im trading the farm for him i would want him to stay more than 3 years. i definitely dont want a guy in my locker room moping around for three years. Hes comments lowered his value to become affordable for the flyers, just like stall did to the penguins. |

How do you guys think Ryan compares to Carter and Richards? I've been using Staal trade as a comp, but Carter, Richards and Kessel are also good comparisons. |

also, i'd only sign jagr for something less than what he made last year -- and for that reason, I don't think he's back next year -- my guess....Detroit. |

But is it worth giving up an NHL defenseman and maybe Voracek for 20-30 extra goals? Jagr could be brought back and/or another forward that could equal 50 with Voracek. |

What's better?
A) To have an Art Ross player on your team in Giroux and a Maurice Richard trophy winner on his wing in Ryan
or
B) Well balanced scoring depth throughout the lineup & a Stanley Cup
Stamkos had a great season last year...and not one playoff game. |

Ryan or Voracek? - flyersfan51
Jake.
A way more dynamic player all around.
Smaller cap hit.
Better on the defensive side of the puck as well. |

you could have both -- if we get Ryan, it doesn't mean we only have one scoring line. |

Jake is going to get between 3.5-4. and probably a raise each year he signs a 1 year deal. I think Ryan is more dynamic than Jake. Jake may be better defensive, but you give Giroux a guy like Ryan.....look out. If we could steal ryan for picks and prospects and maybe read and we have jake and bobby, that would be nice. |

Ryan for Voracek straight up isn't worth it IMO. Also Anaheim's price tag is higher than just that one-for-one.
Ryan for Voracek + Coburn - Holmgren would be the daftest person on the planet to make that trade. |

Everyone was female dogging it about defense now you guys are ready to give up a 2/3 D man for more scoring and replace him with a 22 year old coming off a terrible season? I don't understand. |

Maybe throw Briere on that line too so they can give up 5 goals to every 1 goal they score. |

just watching him get beat over and over bothers me. I see more bad plays from Carle than good plays. - flyersfan51
Any idea why the Coaches play him 23-25 minutes a game if he gets beat over and over, and there is more bad plays then good plays? |

Especially considering one of the Flyers' biggest problem throughout the regular season and playoffs was team defense. Remove a good two way forward and a good NHL defenseman for a guy who has been known to "cut corners" defensively. |

Cool stuff. It also has to be said that Carle plays in an offensive system while Suter does not which can contribute to their offensive output. Regardless, Carle's value is far greater than Suter's considering how much Suter will be making. - NickTheKid87
One thing that was said there that I don't neccesarily agre with is that Carle is a better offensive player then Suter. |

Yea but jake is gonna get a decent raise I think so let's just say he makes 1.5 mill less then Ryan I think I'd rather have Ryan And if we trade jake and mezzy for Ryan we would be saving more cap space |

i already credited the poster about that he made a good point. I like Carle, just not at that $. But at the price all other UFA are going to get.....I'd take Carle. |
