Why do you say that? Bobby Ryan's godfather is Bobby Clarke. Also specifically said he would prefer to get traded to the flyers. Why would any team trade for him now knowing that he wants to be on another team. You would have to give up prospects plus players for a guy that will be unhappy and leave after three years. No team in their mind would give up as much as the ducks want for him. His stock is plummeting faster than enron. which btw works to the flyers advantage. LOL - Philly1980
None of that would bother Sather if he could land him. Sather believes that he can get somebody to come to New York they will want to stay. Parise has said he will not play for the Rangers. Sather says he is still going to make a pitch for him.

I dont think they trade for Ryan till after free agency. They will see what kind of deal can be done after they get what they need to do the deal in FA. If not guess ryan is a duck for another year....quack. - Philly1980
agreed. I really think that Parise or Ryan will be in the orange and black. |

Getzlaf isn't as good of a pure playmaker as Giroux, but he's no slouch in that department, either. Both Ryan and Perry owe a significant piece of their success to their center. - bmeltzer
I agree but I don't see Harrell getting 37 goals playing with getzlaf never know of course though |

Honestly. I'd rather have both Meszaros, Coburn, Carle and Grossmann over Luke Schenn. I like Schenn but I'll go on record right now in saying it wasn't a move the Flyers had to make. The Leafs needed the help up front. In my mind, this pick up is just a show for the city of brotherly love. We needed a Weber or Yandle. I think this trade throws a wrench into certain plans moving forward. - Schenn2shine
I would take them 4 over Schenn but I do think this was a deal we had to do.
Grossmann - Coburn
Kimmo - Carle
Mesz - schenn
Is much better then having Gus or MAB playing. |

No he's a terrible GM for trading JVR. Ask Twitter. - NickTheKid87
Yeah.
I'm still out on Luke. His hit and shot blocking numbers at 22 tell me there is some REAL potential there. And a lot of his shortcoming I have seen seem to stem from his age and maybe some over inflated expectations for such a young player.
But I have also seen a player who is consistently physical, in not a bad skater, stands up for team mates, and could probably use a change of scenery.
Plus he is 6'2" and 230 lbs!
I have keep reminding myself of how young he actually is, and not judge what i have seen of him already as if he were 25, 26 years old.
If I did that, I would just be falling in to the same trap that was set for JVR.

In line with a recent blog, the grass is very much greener out in Anaheim. There's a lot of people convinced that Ryan is a star player. - MJL
Top 10 in goals 2 of the last 4 years, not scoring less than 30 in each of his 4 seasons.
Having said that, I think by star player, you could be reserving that for those such as Giroux/Datsyk/Crosby..........and I would agree with that. But Ryan is on that second tier imo |

Sign a bigger sized defensive forward and I would go along with this.

it seems that both players have soured with their original teams. I like the youth moevement that Homer has put together. I actually like Schenn (D) over JVR because of the depth the Flyers have at this time at the forward position. Plus, he still has 4 years on his contract and is a RH shot. |

I like Schenn and lot and I think the fans will too. I loved JVR and hope he blossoms in Toronto but we don't really lose much. We needed a defensive so I think this trade is a great hockey move.

So assuming we resign Carle our defense consists of:
Timonen 6.4
Carle 5.0
Coburn 4.5
Meszaros 4.0
Schenn 3.6
Grossmann 3.5
Lilja .7
Gustefsson .9 Not Sure
Bourdon .9 Must clear Waivers
Walker 1.7 Waived
So to me it looks like we have 1 to many top 4 defenseman. You cant send Bourdon to the minors, he will get picked, so he has to be your 7th/8th d-man. Same with Lilja. That means right now Gustefson will be in the minors if he is waiver exempt, which I dont know if he is or not. Of Course Walker, and Bartulis also get waived.
Its my opinion that we will be using either Coburn or Meszaros in a deal for someone, or to get picks. Logistically wise it would be great to put out 3 pairings of guys that could be 1-2 pairings on other teams, but financially it doesnt make sense to pay your bottom pairing 7.1 million minimum... We need guys like Lilja, Gus and Bourdon to fill as the 6th D-man. It doesn't bring anything less to your team, and lowers your cap by almost 3 million.
So looking at what Coburn and Meszaros both bring to the table, I would bet Coburn would be the one to trade. Schenn can replace what Coburn brings defensively, and he is worth more value wise in the trade market. Meszaros is also more offensive minded which I think this team really needs from the defense this year.
So IMO if we are going to trade for Ryan, I think a deal of Voracek and Coburn would be ok in my book, as long as something like a pick is coming back with Ryan.

I think we are carrying too much cap on our 3rd pairing. I think to move 1 of them and give Giroux a sniper would be ideal. |

Have to look at the big picture. You building your team for the future, not just fo one year. Timonen's contract is expiring.
Saying that I would no be surprised in the least to see the Flyers trade a defenseman.
But I wouldn't trade Voracek and Coburn for Ryan. |

Steve Ott remains in play ... My own personal belief is that he'd be a great fit in Montreal. He's got size and skill, defend some teammates |

Timonen will be off the books next year so I think that will be when we make a BIG move (i.e. Weber). As of now, that is a great D corp. You also have to factor in injuries. There's no way Kimmo plays 82 games. |

Here is the problem. At this point in his career Luke Schenn is not a top 4 defense man. |
