Also Enström. If both Weber and Enström hit UFA status, I think the Flyers go all out for one of them, with Weber being the bigger prize but also the one that will get the most attention and $ thrown his way. - bmeltzer
Inside scoop on your post, I personally know Shea as he is best friends with family in Kelowna and I guarantee you that his next destination is Edmonton or Vancouver. He would like to be closer to his friends and family in BC and he also owns a mansion in Kelowna. I know he can afford a mansion is several locations but he will ultimately end up closer to home and I would be on Edmonton especially when he sees all the young guns there start to tear up the league. |

anyone else kinda offended by this? It's one thing to be making an obscenely huge amount of money, but to make it 8.7 just for giggles, rubs me the wrong way. - Dkos
Definitely not understanding being offended by that. |

It's been 8.7 for years, not sure why it's a big deal now. Actually, I'm not sure why it's a big deal at all. |

Doan was 2 for 7 last Season in shootouts. - MJL
I should have know you would look that up, ha ha. Check out his career shootout record and all his clutch goals for Team Canada and all his bone crunching body checks evey year. He does not fight that much but he is similar to Jovanovski when that time comes. Best to not engage him. He is a class act and built like a brick poop house. |

If they have a chance to get Doan they will do it.
They have already shown they are not afraid of giving old guys too many years on their deals.
He would look great in Orange and Black. |

Always a possibilty but the Nucks would gladly upgrade to Weber over Edler. Like I said though when the time comes I think Shea could choose the OIlers when he sees them on the rise big time and the Canucks tailing off as the sisters start declining with age. |

I wasn't aware of his salary before this. I try not to think about what these guys make.
Tossing $100,000 around just so his salary is the same as his jersey number rubs me the wrong way. |

With Mez, L Schenn, Coburn, and Grossmann already in the mix I would prefer a more offensive skilled guy like Edler, but I like Rome OK too. |

That's good, sorry to rant about Doan but I just love the guy. Giroux is my favourite player in the league followed by Doan and Iginla.
Doaner and Iggy are true warriors and solid citizens in their respective cities. They are both totally respected in general by all nhl teams and fans. I know Doan has a fair amount of criticism about some of his hits but believe me every team would love to have him. |

Can easily imagine the Oilers, say if they get Schultz this year, Weber next season, and maybe one or two of their young developing defenseman being ready being a really good team, competing for the Cup in ~3-4 years. |

Have to disagree with you on Doan. Doan is one of the best conditioned players in the league and also one of the strongest. He will have no problem giving the Flyers or any team that signs him there monies worth. We better hope he does not sign with the Pens because he will hurt us on the ice physically and on the scoreboard. Giroux with Hartnell and Doan would be a monster line in my opinion. Doan can finish and with a guy like G setting him up he would exceed 30 goals. - flyerdude17
I agreed. And, he has been an Iron-man playing 70+ games a season for several year. Of course, anyone can has a sever injury at any time - but, some seem more prone than others... Doan is less of a risk. |

So basically an 8 to 9 year plan they're working on. Where can I get an application?

Really don't want to think about Parise on Crosby's wing either.
I actually hope Weber and Suter and Parise just stay put.
I think it would be a disaster in Nashville if both guys jump ship. |

One way or another this rivalry will have some new characters next year. Doan would fit in seemlessly to either team as well. Weber is just a mean SOB, he was made for the Flyers but I would prefer he never goes there. |

Still don't want to tie in to an over-35 contract that will take him to age 40. Not saying he can't still be an effective player for the duration but all it takes is a freak injury that is beyond the scope of conditioning -- or more commonly, something like accumulated back, knee or shoulder injuries that he played through -- to turn the contract into an albatross.

I know this goes against popular opinion but I'd be willing to bring Doan in on a 4 year deal. He'll be 39 by the time the deal is up, but I don't think his production will drop off that much. If anything we might be overpaying for a quality third liner by year 4. Also if his price is 4 mill that's only half a mill higher than what we gave Jagr and he's 6 years older. This is a FA acquisition not a trade like in the Ryan scenario where you have to shed assets. Furthermore Doan is the only player despite the age I can see the Flyers acquiring to take a step in improving the team defense, while adding a top line scoring threat. |

Don't know the particulars of friendship with Doan, but I will say there are very few former teammates with whom Briere does not get along well. He's just a first-class, quality person. Doan has always been regarded in same light, too. |
