I think Jagr is going to have to wait around if he is testing the FA Market as there are bigger names to be signed before anyone looks at him. I think if Philly can get something handled in the first few days after July 01 there is a better chance of him coming back. I think 1 more year here would be a perfect fit then they can move on with a few contracts coming off the books next year. If The Ducks want Voracek and Coburn/Mes for Ryan that is too much to pay right now in my opinion |

problem i have with voracek bill is that he couldnt score in a vietnamese whore house. My opinion is that you need a guys who can put the puck in the net(sniper). I also dont think hartnel is that guy. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Jagr Alternatives, Carle, LTIR, Larsson - bmeltzer
Even before the Wideman signing, I had doubts on the Carle discount he was giving the Flyers. The salary thrown around for Carle (4.5-4.75) suggested a million a year discount on the open market. Now that discount seemingly grows. Was this handshake deal the same one Holmgren gave to JVR last week?

I think Voracek could get 20-25 goals. I don't see him as 30-goal guy. But he does a variety of things well apart from goal scoring.

realistically though -- they should go after mcclement or whitney.....sign carle and voracek and they should field a good team. - flyersfan51
Sign Voracek. Maybe target Doan.
Parise would be great but too $$$.
I'd wait until trade deadline for any other moves.

Voracek scored 18 goals last year. Look around the League. See how many forwards each team had that scored 18 or more goals. You'll find that scoring 18 goals is not the definition of "couldn't score in a vietnamese whore house". |

True but the moral of the story is we don't have flexibility.
Where is this house you speak of? I love Pho, so maybe they will have some. |

Doan would be great if interested in Philly but the four-year contract demand is excessive. Wouldn't even want to go three years out, but OK depending on cap hit he'll trade off for an extra year. Two, absolutely. |

I like what he says in that we should try to keep last years team in tact for the most part, and add a big defensive forward to the mix for some more grit up front. That is ALL I think they should do.
I think they improved the defense with the addition of Schenn. And in doing so added some more size and grit to that unit.
Just get a serviceable backup goalie...Not Leighton, and they should be done.
The whole, Homer needs/wants to make a big splash in FA would be counter productive. Especially since all of the splashes involve pieces that don't address specific needs.
This team has very specific easily identifiable needs.

yeah -- I heard 9 million for Parise??
Doan will want around 5 -- which is 2 too much. IF you asked me if I wanted Voracek signing 1 year deals started at 3.5 and probably going up or Bobby Ryan for 3 years at 5.1......I'd do it -- and I would include Meszaros because I don't think we need to be spending 7.1 million on our 3rd D pair. |

I want to maximize giroux's potential, not stick him with a guy that likes to rag the puck more than he does. |

I'd much prefer to see them play the UFA market conservatively, re-signing Jagr or bumping all the kids up a notch on the depth chart and signing a depth forward instead.
There's definitely no shortage of quality bottom-six forwards in this year's UFA group: David Moss, Jay McClement, Adam Burish, Nick Johnson, Travis Moen, Paul Gaustad, Jordin Tootoo, Brandon Prust, Taylor Pyatt, Torrey Mitchell, Joey Crabb, Mike Knuble, etc.
I wouldn't mind seeing them take on a reclamation project like Eric Fehr, whom the Jets didn't qualify. The guy's been injury-prone and his fire/mobility will always be an issue, but his hands and sniping ability are still there. |

Giroux scored 93 points last Season. Seems like his potential is doing just fine. Jagr held onto the puck quite a bit last Season. |

Since it hasn't hurt our scoring, why would it bother you so much how much they spend on their "third pair"? At the end of last season i found myself wishing they had spent more on defense.
I love how this is becoming the flavor of the week issue.

And when an injury happens, the flavor of the week issue will be to add a defenseman.
Just like I was saying last night.
It's "we need a Goalie", then it's "why did you get that Goalie!" |

Until Carle or a similar defenseman is signed, I wouldn't be advocating the trade of any current Flyers defenseman. |
