I don't think he'll play power play (has trouble get shots through and on net) but I have always thought he's a underrated passer. - bmeltzer
I think most people would be surprised to hear that Schenn led all Leaf defensemen last season in even strengh (5v5) points per 60 mins on the ice. While he's not likely to ever be a 40-50 point guy, 30+ isn't out of the question in the future. That kind of production plus the physical defense he brings could be an increasingly valuable asset as he continues to develop.
Apparently the next big thing. This kid better come in and be a beast. - stveshdy
I hope every team that plays this kid hits him and hits him extremely hard. This is one of the most pathetic and shameful things I have seen in a while. I expect this kind of crap out of the NBA.

Not the way I would want to enter the NHL. He is coming off like a ME guy which is more important than the team he signs with.

I'm sorry, but if you haven't ever played a minute in the NHL, you have to have some balls and arrogance to tell a franchise like the Detroit Red Wings no. It's disgusting.

He has the right to tell Detroit no and I'm sure they are doing it with class. Hes a free agent so he has that right to pick where ever he wants to go.

Arrogant like Lindros?
The kid and his agent are not talking trash or giving interviews. He's politely telling teams he won't sign with them asap so they can carry on making other plans.
He says he wants to play in a hockey market and play top 4 minutes. Sure, he's got some stones to do what he's doing. But that's the kind of guy I want on my team. If he can actually play that is. And all signs point to him being a player.

I've got no problem with it. - rockychocbill
He's just the same as any UFA. The only weird thing about it is he can talk to teams 5 or whatever days before the rest of everyone else can. So this guy is all the media can focus on. I don't get the hate

The guys on NHL radio agree with you.
They said its the last time Schultz will have any leverage until he become UFA.

I doubt he will get to play top 4 minutes in NY or Vancouver, or even Toronto.
No team can guarantee him that anyway.
If he is like minus 20 after 15 games he could get sent down.
I have no problem him picking his spot, but doubt a GM will guarantee him a top 4 role.

Exactly. And I'm sure he'll get booed every time he plays in Anaheim. Or Detroit. Or Ottawa or whatever other city doesn't land him. Stoopid fans. Just go read the NHL message board.
If I'm him I sign with EDM. He's played in Wisconsin. Cold winters. Meh.

I would go to Edmonton b/c they need defense bad and they are a very young team. Perfect fit.

He's got multiple bonuses built into his contract. That's really why he's looking for some assurance of top 4 minutes. He doesn't want to get jacked out of a legitimate shot at the bonus money. But like you said, it's all a moot point and he'll be the next Stephan Whatshisface if he can't back any of this up.

He has every right to tell a team he isn't going to sign with them. He can only say yes to one franchise. He doesn't owe Detroit anything.

seems like his best bet for guaranteed top 4 minutes. don't seem like they have any problems sitting through the growing pains with young players
