Not interested in that. I'm concerned with improving from the year prior, and although I'm not a Matt Carle fan, replacing him with Schenn, while losing JVR in the process is not improving the team in any way. People can spin it any way they like, but that is the reality of it.
I'm waiting to see what happens Sunday. - PLindbergh31
I don't disagree with that. But it's a process. And possibly the Schenn deal was made in case they lose Carle. And I think even you can agree that they would be worse off with Carle leaving, if they hadn't traded for Schenn. That's the point.

Is it possible to move Carle (rights) and Voracek for Ryan? It looks like an overpayment but that would mean Carle has no chance of resigning. I would then love to see the Flyers add Garrison.
In:
Ryan and Garrison
Out:
Carle and Voracek
What you think? I also like Doan but the years worry me. Just throwing out ideas. - stveshdy
I personally am not a huge fan of adding Ryan. I do not like how he has personally handled the whole situation. He is also a player who has been critized for his defensive game. Thats why I worry about adding him to the "core" that the team will build around. Not to mention having to give up assets to do so.
I have heard a lot of talk of Garrison and truthfully have not seen him play much. What is he like defensively? |

Garrison is good at both ends of the ice. He also has a rocket from the point. |

I would take that trade off. Not going to happen though. I'm terrified Jagr gets resigned, and Leighton is signed to be the backup. That would be an absolute cluster(frank). - PLindbergh31
No more Leighton.
I just picture him losing it and causing locker-room issues. |

I have a hard time seeing Anaheim taking the right's to Carle in the deal.

Of course I agree with that. Anyone would, but I believe the idea was to add Schenn and resign Carle so the 6th d-man would be upgraded significantly from Bourdon, Lilja or Gustafsson. |

I honestly dont believe the Flyers will resign Leighton to be the backup unless everything they try fails. |

Is he physical?
In terms of the overall makeup of the Panthers, where does he rank on the D?
Where would he play on say a team like the Kings? |

Could they ask the Flyers if he would be willing to sign there? I agree with you by the way. |

And that can still happen. Or they add another defenseman if Carle walks.

I'm pretty sure that's who it's going to be. Other than Biron, or Clemmensen I'm not enthralled with any of the potential backups. |

I don't know. Technically no. But who knows what goes on behind the scenes with agents, players, and GM's.

I'd be willing to give Niity another shot. As well as Esche.
I think Biron will be wanted by other teams as well, and that might make it hard to sign him.

Depends what you mean by physical? Hes not Luke Schenn but uses his body. Not sure where he would play in LA. |

You don't trust Leighton to backup or like 15 games... I'd prefer Biron but I don't want to pay 1 mil for a backup. Also, looks like we're out of the Shultz running, and with the Wideman signing, it is sounding like Carle may walk.. should be very interesting to see how Homer fills the D spot, the RW spot and the backup.
Personally, if Carle asks for like 5.5 mil I say good bye. |

Bill said earlier in the thread Nittymaki is likely to miss the season due to hip surgery I believe. I don't want any of these ex-Flyers retreads. |

Suter than Carle. There is noway he doesnt get that kind of money imo. Some team will overpay b/c they can and will need to upgrade. I believe he is gone. |

I ask because I think they need to bring in a guy who can play top 4 minutes.
If they lose Carle that is. I am not saying that is where Garrison would be slotted usually but if injuries arise.
By physical I mean is he able to stand up guys at the blueline or be a punishing force. Does he also do so consistently? |
|
|

Have to wait until the entire off season is done. If Carle bolts you're down Carle, bob and JVR while up Schenn and 3 picks with $6 extra million to use. Long way to go.

Let me ask you a question though. If Anaheim knew he would sign with them, why not just wait a few days and make him an offer? Why take him as a key part of a trade for Ryan. I wouldn't take that if I was Murray.

Anaheim may lose out to another team. If they have the space to sign him now and avoid even competing with another team why not do it? Plus they get rid of Ryan and get back Voracek also. They get a two for one deal. |

The way I view a backup goalie is, can he step in if the starter gets injured and not ruin your season. Leighton has started 2 NHL games in the last two years, and he conjures up bad memories.
I would prefer not to overpay Carle, but I'm not sure of any realistic alternatives. |
