No, he doesn't. - Flyskippy
I don't understand it. Carle is not a 6 million dollar player like he will get paid. Maybe 5.25-5.5 if he gives the flyers a deal. The flyers cannot afford to overpay for him. I also don't understand how 1 player can be viewed so differently by 1 fanbase. |

help me out here. The Flyers D was such a mash unit last year with all the injuries, Here's how I see the Dlines with and without Carle at this point. Input welcome.
1. Timo/Coburn
2. Meszaros/Grossman
3. Bourdon/Schenn
with Carle:
1. timo/Coburn
2. Meszaros/Grossman
3. Carle/Schenn
Can't pony up $32.5 on the blue line so there's no way they can sign Carle unless they have a deal for someone else. - jstross
They absolutely can re-sign Carle without dealing anyone else.

Do you want Carle if it costs you 5.25-5.5 mil? |
|
|

Wow, I didn't realize Suter wouldn't consider teams like Detroit, Chicago, Nashville, Pittsburgh,...
Are you sure about that?
Yeah, all we have to do is move the team west of the missippi. - hereticpride

Might be best to go after Salvador for this season. Wait until next offseason for Weber, Enstrom or Edler. - stveshdy
I would want maybe a little better offensive skill. I like Colaiacovo a little better. |

I would let Carle walk. We survived losing Promger and makimg it to the second round. No Mez. Grossmann half of normal self.
We can rebuild. We have the technology.
Get Doan. |

If Carle is going to walk it would be. But it's fantasy. - MJL
It's sounds like he's gonna test the market for what his agent was saying so he's gonna get top dollar kinda srcewing the flyers if u ask me I wouldn't be suprised to see a deal tomorrow |
|
|
|
Of course you could sacrifice the offense, but you can't stay status quo on D and add Carle and resign Voracek and Jagr or comparable. Not enough money until after the season starts.

Possibly trading his rights, maybe. But Anaheim taking him as a major part of a deal for Ryan. Highly unlikely.

Might need that technology for Doan. He's 35 and looking for four years. |

Funny how a week and a deal changes things.
More than a few folks ready to run Carle out of town during the season are now maybe hoping he signs a "loyalty" contract with the Flyers.
*not looking at anyone in particular btw* - rockychocbill
If the Flyers really want Carle, they'll sign him, even if it's to a wideman-like contract...they have room to do so. That said, if there were assurances given between Carle's camp and the Flyers for a certain deal, I would hope it would be honored and they don't try and up the ante too much in light of Wideman. This whole tweet of Carle's UFA status could be a tactic by his agent to get more out of the Flyers. Should be an interesting weekend.

Have you SEEN what other d-men have been paid since the last lockout? Jeff Finger got a gross overpayment. Bouwmeester did too. Now, Wideman. Carle got less than them and is better than them. He blocks shots, usually with his stick a la Desjardins, he makes the first pass out of the zone better than many d-men, he can skate it out of the zone well, and he gets back to cover. He's comparable to Kim Johnsson who never got unbridled hate like Carle.
As for your last sentence, were you not around for players that polarized the fanbase like Ron Hextall (second stint), Eric Lindros, or Jeff Carter? |

Showing my age with that quote.
Ill take Doan at 39. I like his style of play.
I am in a complete minority...but I'm cool with Coby and Grossmann and Mez and schenn getting big minutes. And Timmo when he's ready.

Flyers have about $11.2 million. Call carle $5 and Voracek $3 and a backup goalie $ .8. So you have about $2.4 million to replace JVR and Jagr. You'd have Shelly in the top 4 lines with zero depth. It can be done, but one injury on the top 3 lines and there's nothing to replace it. Shelly, Rinaldo or Talbot on the top 3 lines would be a disaster.
That's not true. There is enough money to do that. - MJL

Word is that Toews is pushing the Hawks to get Doan.

Were there no cap, I'd want Doan here. Were it 2002 and not 2012, I would want Doan here like I wished. But not now and not for more than 1 year. He's my favorite non-Flyer, but my head is a better gauge to use in a cap system than my heart. |

I'm leery of signing Doan for 4 years also. He is the prototypical power forward in the LeClair mode. Eventually those type of players' bodies just give out. I like everything about Doan, but the high mileage is a great concern. I would rather bring back Jagr for one year then signing Doan for four.
Peter Mueller is a guy I would consider. His injury history is a concern, but you have to figure he won't command a high salary and the guy is really talented if he is healthy. I have to figure he'll get below $2 million dollars, I do like him at one year more then a 41 year old Jagr. |
