Bill don't know if this has been discussed yet, but where are the Flyers at currently with contracts? I know they have been at the max last season or two... - Buzzo
They're OK. Currently at 47 (45 with two slide-rule contracts in Cousins and Mathers). |

They would like Biron if he doesn't re-sign with Rangers. In terms of which goalie I'd prefer, I'd be OK with Biron, Dan Ellis or Chris Mason at steep discounts, or any other goalie of similar caliber who was a starter at some point in the past but is now a clear-cut #2. - bmeltzer
Thank You very much for the response Bill. |

Buckner is a borderline hall of famer, who happened to make a terrible error on the biggest stage, when he was at the end of his career. Leighton is a career minor leaguer for the most part, I don't think the players are in anyway comparable. IMO of course. - PLindbergh31
they both let squibbers through to kill their teams |

cause he signed a one year deal last year. PS this is a board for mostly opinions any way. - Philly1980

not a surprise but:
@DarrenDreger: Justin Schultz lottery is fascinating, considering teams IN and teams OUT. Told Flyers are in the "OUT" line.
he added:
teams in on Schultz: Vancouver, Edmonton, Rangers, Toronto and Ottawa

I don't see any complaining in my post. Simply stating my opinion.
Complaining about people who complain is an interesting concept. - PLindbergh31
That's an interesting way to justify it |

The way Flyers trade away guys who are at the beginning of long term deals is going to make potential UFA's think twice about signing in Philadelphia. |

Do you think Clemmensen will command a larger than 1 mil salary? I wouldn't mind seeing him as a backup |

Because he is a valuable asset that they can possibly use in a deal, or to actually make the team. And because maybe there will be a deal involving one of the defenseman. Should they just walk away from Bourdon? |

I wonder if he's out bc it's his decision or the flyers? That could mean Carle will be resigned, thinking positive here. |

It's not about agreeing or disagreeing, it's about forming opinions with what's available. I just don't like seeing people saying they don't like a player an blame it in ten wanting too much money or too many years when we have no idea if that's the case. There's nothing wrong with wanting to trade any player, but base it off of the facts. |

He would still have agree to it first . Even if the Flyers let Carle and Jagr walk, re-sign Voracek ($3.0 M estimate), re-sign Bourdon ($900K estimate) and a backup goalie ($800,000), plan to waive Shelley ($1.1M) and can find a taker for Lilja ($737,500, over-35 contract) via minor trade, they will have $7.914M of cap space.
Sign Parise at $7.9 M and there's a mere $140,000 of cap space plus Pronger's LTIR to get through the entire season. And that's with carrying the absolute minimum (6 D, 12 forward) number of skaters.
It isn't realistic. - bmeltzer
but once they start season, they get Pronger's relief right? |

Good offensive D prospect but so ridiculously overhyped at this point that it's ridiculous. I have said this before: It hurts Anaheim a bit to lose his rights but not as much as some think. They already have a player with virtually the same upside -- Sami Vatanen -- coming over to North America for next season.
If I were Holmgren, the only way I would do a Bobby Ryan trade where I send both a current starting forward and a starting D and a first-round pick is if Vatanen is also coming the other way. Basically a righthanded Kimmo Timonen in training -- very undersized, but skills, moxie and work ethic make up for it.

From what was reported he wants an assurance he will be on an NHL roster....probably wants a one way deal ala Read. Perhaps the Flyers aren't willing to give him that. I mean, with the depth this team has on defense I guess not. |

I think we've seen Holmgren get crazier tho. I'm not advocating this however. Our d would be worse than last year |

I don't mean Schultz, I just mean in general. After the deal Wideman got yesterday if Carle is willing to sign for less than 5 million per, that would be a very good deal. |

Yes, but it would only add up between avail cap space and the allowance to the equivalent of $4.9 million. Since the team would be carrying the minimum number of players, it's really not advisable to operate that way.
