Not sure I'm comfortable with anything over $5M. However you look at what these defenseman are getting today on the market and I dont see how he doesnt get $6M per year. - stveshdy
I was ok with an overpayment of a bit over $5m, but at this point his market value is just insane. No way I'm paying what he can command. |

No way I sign Carle to that $6m+ number. - BulliesPhan87

One way deal. He's on the roster. He's the backup. - hereticpride
Um his last contract was a 1 way deal in now way does this mean he is the backup just that they have him in the fold for sure but can still go after somebody else. |

He didn't count against the cap last year. Was he still hurt?
He was on a one way deal last year and wasn't a backup. I'm not sure that really matters. But from the sounds of it, he is the backup regardless. - eayost

He was in the AHL after going through waivers. That could happen again once the waiver period starts if the Flyers decide on another backup option, or let it play out in camp |

Thats something I dont understand. Why not trade him for nothing? Guess Homer couldnt get any takers. - stveshdy
You would think someone would be willing to give up a 7th round pick. |

No other reason to sign him at 900k if he's not the backup. How much money are we going to sink into goaltending then? |

Not that Carle isn't a good player but I look at him on the same level as Coburn. So if hes only getting 4.5M the max on Carle should be 5M per year. Even at that number I'm still not comfortable. |

I definitely would give a shot to Gragnani on a two-way deal. Only 25, he played really well for Buffalo two years ago, the guy has just fallen off the planet. - ravishingone
same here, I like him a one way with a good number |

Except if Coburn had hit UFA, he'd be getting 5.5M per year offers too |

He can be sent down, but then waivers come into play. I think he was absolutely signed to be the backup.
Is it a huge deal? Maybe not, but there were certainly better options out there. I just don't understand why they refuse to move on from this guy. |

The offseason is all about overpayment. How much more are you willing to give up to get what you want? It's never pleasant, paying the inflated prices, but that's how it goes.
And sometimes, the price inflates too much. |

I'm sure he would but thats why I had questions about why the Flyers signed Coburn and Grossmann yet couldnt get anything done with Carle during the year. |

I guess nobody wanted to take on even that small amount of salary, considering the huge dollars paid out (and more yet to be paid) today. |

As you say, maybe he's slated as the 3rd guy and maybe insurance so that they can make sure they at least have someone. It wouldn't surprise ,if they got someone else as the NHL backup. |

I think it was just the tagging space thing. If they had the extra space to resign Carle, he'd already be done here for 5M or less. They prioritized Coburn, then probably had enough space to do Grossmann but not Carle. |

I'd actually prefer that over a impulsive trade/signing just to get a name player. - 77rams
But why be positive, when you can be negative, and criticize the Flyers? I mean Free Agency is 9 hours old. |

I rather trade for younger players on EL deals. Phoenix has a lot of defenseman ready to play and so does Nashville. No need to overpay on the market. Have to get creative sometimes. |
