No other reason to sign him at 900k if he's not the backup. How much money are we going to sink into goaltending then? - hereticpride
no worries...if we cant do it right the first time, we can always do it over. |

He can be sent down, but then waivers come into play. I think he was absolutely signed to be the backup.
Is it a huge deal? Maybe not, but there were certainly better options out there. I just don't understand why they refuse to move on from this guy. - PLindbergh31
Because he probably at most play 15 games. He knows his role and knows how to prepare for it. He will keep his mouth shut and do what he needs to do to stay ready when its his turn. It is what it is. |

I dunno. I see your points thought. Maybe it was the org being overly loyal.
Also, if we lose out on Suter, I do not want any part of Carle at 6 mil. (frank)ing madness.

I think it was just the tagging space thing. If they had the extra space to resign Carle, he'd already be done here for 5M or less. They prioritized Coburn, then probably had enough space to do Grossmann but not Carle. - eayost
I'll have to look it up but if hes one of your better players you try to lock him up first before negotiating with another player. I could be wrong but if I have three players I'm looking to lock up my most important player first. Now maybe the Flyers feel Coburn is the more important player. |

Well Bartulis was just bought out, creating 100k in dead cap space. Why? - PLindbergh31
To create more off Season Cap space, which is needed to try and get some good players in here.
As I've said multiple times, off season Cap space is the issue for the Flyers, not in Season Cap space. |

I rather trade for younger players on EL deals. Phoenix has a lot of defenseman ready to play and so does Nashville. No need to overpay on the market. Have to get creative sometimes. - stveshdy
Well, nothing's getting done until at least one of Parise or Suter drops. |

Imo Coby > Carle x 2 - Daman
At the end of last year, Coburn was playing like a 6.5 million dollar man imo |

That's what they must have thought, or negotiations were a bit more difficult with Carle and they wanted to ensure both Carle and Coburn didn't turn UFA at the same time (if Coburn would have become a UFA at the end of this past season... I'm not 100% sure on that). |

Exactly. He's not my first choice as backup, but the deal is fair and very short term. They can upgrade the position at any point if they choose. |

I don't think the Flyers move Coburn unless it is for Weber, Grossmann and Coburn have the looks of an effective shut-down tandem. |

I think paying him 1.5 million a year to contribute zero to the NHL level team is plenty loyal enough. The only way it becomes a huge issue is if Bryzgalov gets injured.
In some people's eyes this team can do no wrong, it's very amusing. |

But why be positive, when you can be negative, and criticize the Flyers? I mean Free Agency is 9 hours old. - MJL
I don't think they've done bad yet.. the big names have the market cornered in a weak UFA year.. If we walk outta this with Suter added to the D with Schenn and a solid winger.. you're in business IMO. I'm sure that Bryz said in his exit interview.. I need to play more to get in a groove like I was in March.. They prob said.. let's get rid of Bob, and Bryz is the man.. we'll sign a backup to a short term contract and savethe cap money for one of the UFA's.
Good or bad, after last summers deals and good results...In Homer I trust.. |

As you say, maybe he's slated as the 3rd guy and maybe insurance so that they can make sure they at least have someone. It wouldn't surprise ,if they got someone else as the NHL backup. - Hextall271
I wouldn't be shocked if he the backup, but free agency has a long way to go so anything can happen. |

Leighton is the last thing I'm worried about. If Bryzgalov gets hurt I have no doubt that Homer wil make a move to upgrade. |

I agree with this point.. if all goes to plan, great.. Leights plays 15 games..if Bryz goes down for a long stretch..what do you do? I'd have preferred Biron, but more coin.. |

Biron was never an option for the Flyers. Not this year, at least. |
