I was surprised by the physicality Kessel showed in the drill against Mangene. He's 6'2" 210, so it's not as if he's small, but he's not known to be physical. He was all over Mangene on that battle drill, using his body well and getting under Mangene's skin. - Jsaquella
I thought I read on the Flyers website really talking up Lauridsen. It was earlier in spring saying he might have a good chance to see some time on the big club presumably as an injury call-up. |

funny that the philly media know him but nothing ever leaked about his identity - vejim
I think it's because of the way he goes about his business. He doesn't trash people or make threats when they disagree with him. He doesn't get into the petty garbage that a lot of other rumormongers do, and he never beats his chest when he gets a rumor right first.
Other hockey bloggers have leaked his name, so it's not as if it's unknown. But I do like how Ek handles himself when there's a disagreement. |

I read the same thing. There was buzz about him last summer, too. The drills today were really not suited for a defensive defenseman, outside of the battle drill. |

Yep. Tee shirt, jeans and sandals. It was a fun experience, even with my kids climbing all over me and making a ruckus |

that's awesome. I still take my kid to the Phillies and Flyers but I know she is just doing it for the food. Half the time she doesn't even know the score. |

Luke Schenn with his experience level really has a chance to be a 20 + night d-man I believe in the Vladimir Konstantinov mold. For the more seasoned fans, that name can bring back a lot of memories. Vlad was a very physical d-man who controlled the game with his hitting and toughness more so then his offensive game. He was a great d-man for the Red Wings.
For all this talk about how Schenn was scratched last year on a bad Leafs team. Chris Pronger was drafted #2 overall by Hartford and played poor enough to be traded to the Blues for Brendan Shanahan. While with Blues, Mike Keenan between periods would berate Pronger by showing him video of what he did wrong on the ice. I think we may want to give Luke a little bit of a chance is all I'm saying. - ravishingone
I would be thrilled if he turned out like VK but those attributes dont allow for a player to be as impactful in todays game as it was in the clutch and grab era. I hope LS spends this summer working on his footspeed and skating. With improvemnets in theses area's, coupled with the physicallity he brings, I think LS with turn into the player we hope he can be.....I'm also in "I wanted more return for JVR" camp. |

do you think clutch and grab will ever truly disappear? Seemed like Grossmann got away with his share last year. |

It looks like it may be starting to come back. After the lockout, the refs would call a penalty anytime you LOOKED at an opponent the wrong way. That's part of the reason that offensive numbers were up the first few seasons after the lockout. Now the coaches are adjusting and the game is closing up again. Grossmann type defenders are becoming relevant again unlike Hatcher post-lockout who defined the term "pylon". |

I think they have to allow it to a certain extent. Otherwise these guys can just turn on the after-burners and we have paid pond hockey up and down the ice. I like some grizzle with my steak if you catch my drift. |

I'm with you there. I think the NHL is having trouble finding that happy medium though. You don't want it to be 1980s hockey but you don't want to slow it down to late 90s-pre-lockout hockey. I think it's at a solid level right now. It was a little better a year or two ago though IMO. |

I'm really shocked this isn't a lot going on right now. I really feel homer is holding this off season up some for the weber situation. Smoke screen parise and Suter. Depth signings. Homer you sly dog you |
