Like you said he loves playing here and has been productive. I can see him possibly taking a little less to stay here since the Flyers took a leap of faith with him years back and paid him more than other players of his stature at the time received. He wont give a ton back but I could def see him signing for 5M per year. |

Oh, this should be a fun topic today.
If he puts up over 35 again I have no issue going to 5.25 for him. |

Don't forget the intangibles either. He's become a savvy veteran who plays well with the media/fans and is great in the locker room. If he recreates last year's magic, then definitely give him 5.5. |

Hopefully flyers lock him up before 2013. I'd go 4 yrs at 5-5.5. 5 years at 5. |

I agree with this. Presuming that he can continue on his 11/12 trajectory, I would not like to lose him. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Hartnell, Prospect Camp - bmeltzer
Hate paying guys right after a career year, but I want Hartnell to stay.
I look at his PP goals and shooting % from last year as unsustainable, but if he continues to bring 50-60 points on top of his size and intangibles, he's well worth $5+ million/year. |

with the cba uncertainty, if the flyers come with a strong initial offer maybe he takes it, knowing that a new cba and cap could significantly alter contracts |

I think money being equal, this is like the parise situation in that Doan has places hed prefer over philly, and even the parise situation money wasn't equal, we were top dog. |

I don't see why Doan wouldn't want to play here. He'd get to play with Giroux + the Flyers play the style of hockey that suits him perfectly. |

I've read that if he can't ink in Phoenix he'd really want to stay out west. Hard to see him as a king though |

I think waiting for the new CBA deal is like a double edged sword...it could help or hurt the negotiations with Hartnell....yet locking him up now could also help or hurt...it really is a crap shoot. |

Similar to Parise - he is not coming here. Not b/c of money or hockey.
Because of his lifestyle and family.
I still contend that we are most likely to trade for Ryan, or do nothing.

I think re-signing Hartnell should be a top priority this upcoming season. 5.25 over 4 or 5 years would be fine by me.
Since 07, ONLY HARTNELL has been a mainstay on the top point producing line on the team, while all other players have changed.. he was a constant. You know what you are getting from him.. He is ugly. His skating isnt great. He scores 25+, adds 25 assists, and racks up PIM. He plays on the PP (top unit), and led the league in PP goals last season. He is really our only true power forward. He hits fights (when needed) and is willing to go anywhere on the ice, and do anything thats asked of him.
He oozes character. He loves the city and the city loves him. On top of it, he is a guy that makes it easier during the rough patches. We gotta a realllll good glimpse of scotty during 24/7 (and actually some even cooler spots thanks to NHLPA youtube). The players all love the guy. They were pushing for him to get that spot on the allstar team.
He is a guy you want.. and so does every other team.

Im with you.. I would love Doan.. just dont see it happening. Ryan still seems most likely, although Im not happy with the asking price. |

Oh Im not saying he wouldn't wanna play here, I just think like Daman mentioned there are places location wise that he puts above Philly, from what I've read atleast. Theres going to be a dozen teams courting him, philly, pens included. If he stays out west or comes here Id be happy |

I agree 100%. I see Hartnell as a must for signing an extension ASAP. |

Doan has been in Phoenix for a long time. His children are getting older and have been there for their entire lives. I can give you plenty of reason why he wouldnt want to come to Philly.
I love people like the Joe S mentioned in your blob Bill. It seems we have to deal with people like that every day. We look at them with incredulity at the nonsense they spout on a daily basis, and wonder if they even watch the games. We get enough of that in here, never mind having to deal with it on Twitter.
I love it when some idiot comes in here stating with finality that this player or that player is "useless", "sucks", etc.
There is plenty of room for criticism of any player, but the moronic, all encompassing terms some of them use just succeed in painting them as dullard troglodytes with the brains of house flies. |
