What I'm arguing is that Pominville is far from untouchable. He doesn't need to be dealt, but if the Sabres want to win the Cup he can't be your teams best winger/forward. Others seem to have put him on a pedestal that's just homer silliness. - GilPerreault
And I think you need to add with him. I love Ryan but I just can't see the Sabres a whole lot better with Ryan instead of Pominville in there. Now if you keep Pominville and add Ryan, now that's a better team. And I just don't see how Stafford's stock is so low. He's far from my favorite player but he just had two 50 pt season's. I can't see how Stafford+a top 4 D man+ a draft pick shouldn't be enough. We could maybe even throw in a Weber or something to sweeten it. |

Chicago doesn't exactly kill people either.. they have a few d-men.. but I don't think they exactly have it in their forwards group..
STL isn't exactly a staple gun to the boards type team either..
Detroit aren't exactly big hitters either...
NJD aren't big hitters...
NYR can be at times.. - JVince11
Have you watched Backes play? They've got quite a few guys that will lay it all out. I would say they're probably actually in the top 10 in the league, or right near there. |

I'm not saying they should trade those players, just that is what other teams are going to want. Drew Stafford is not going to get you Bobby Ryan, or anyone else of equal or better caliber unless the others I mentioned are involved. No GM would do that, unless they're intentionally trying to be fired, and sabotage the team first. - buffalofan19
Toronto over values their players... and we under value ours IMO..
Gaustad nets a first..
Butler and Byron get us Regehr and a 2nd rounder..
Kassian got us Hodgson
and Derek "hows my dress look?" Roy got us Steve Ott. |

I agree, I think Myers is the closest to untouchable but he isn't. - GilPerreault
IM leaning more toward Erhoff on D as being our untouchable. |

I think Weber would be more likely to sour it.
But otherwise, I agree. |

You said teams that hit more win more, well Vancouver is probably in the bottom 3rd of the league in terms of hitting and they won the President's Trophy 2 years in a row and made it to the SCF last year. So your theory isn't exactly accurate. - HonkFortheGoose
Why are the Sabres drafting/signing bigger and tougher players if hitting has no impact in a contact sport like hockey? Darcy has tried the small, figure skater approach and where did that get us?
Hitting does matter in hockey. Have you ever been on the ice and been constently run into the boards by big players? I have and it wears you down, makes you keep your head up, makes you have to think more and causes you to make mistakes you wouldn't have made if you haven't been run all game. |

relax dude.. she is not saying that "hitting is not important" but she was just proving it that just becuase you can hit people and lay them the f#ck out doesn't mean you are going to win..
There are teams that have other methods that are good teams that don't hit.. and there are teams that hit REALLY well that win.. |

But you don't seem to get that it's not the be all end all either.
Again, Vancouver has had what most would consider 2 successful seasons and they don't hit all the time. It does make a difference, but not as much as you're claiming it to be. |

Toronto over values their players... and we under value ours IMO..
Gaustad nets a first.. There was a 4th involved, and Buffalo won that trade hands down. That doesn't make it smart, and a first rounder alone doesn't get you a bonafide scoring winger.
Butler and Byron get us Regehr and a 2nd rounder.. Two words: Jay Feaster
Kassian got us Hodgson First rounder for a First Rounder. Buffalo gave up just as much value wise as they got. It just filled a need.
and Derek "hows my dress look?" Roy got us Steve Ott. A trade that most see as a loss for Buffalo. In terms of pure value, it is a loss, but given Buffalo's lack of grit, it was worth taking the it. Again, not a scoring winger. Completely different ball game - JVince11
The only piece acquired in those 4 trades worth an upgrade at the wing position of the caliber we are talking about is Hodgson, and they gave up equal value for him. |
