He shouldn't need to be their most important forward, but that doesn't mean we should get rid of him either. I'd rather they somehow got a player that should be more important than him to help compliment what he brings to the team already. - HonkFortheGoose

I'm not saying the Sabres should get rid of him, but he's not all that and definitely not untouchable. |

Just my opinion hes been the most consistant winger weve had his whole career here.Yea u can say Vanek and Stafford but they go in huge droughts both of them.Pommer never gets down on himself and he scores on everyone. We have our tough guys now and roleplayers what we dont need to do is get rid of our true scorers. - buffalo 1

That's one of the few intricacies from the CBA that I know. I remember reading something about it a few years ago when Lundqvist was an RFA. The Rags elected to take him to arbitration so that they didn't have to worry about it while they tried to work out a deal. - HonkFortheGoose
Isn't that essentially what the Devils did with Parise last year too? |

Pommer is also great defensively and on the penalty kill. Plus up until recently he was never injured. |

With the exception of 1 year, he's played in every game every season. He consistently scores over 60 points a year (minus the year he missed time, and he still had 52). He plays huge minutes on both the PK and the PP. Those are the type of guys that you need on your team and their contributions shouldn't be looked at as no big deal. |

Probably. I would think that was really the reasoning behind it. |

Not that this really pertains to Buffalo, but is there anything in the CBA that prevents a team form offering a piece of ownership in lieu of salary? 100 Million buy a lot of hockey team... maybe if Nashville can't come up with the dough, as some are suggesting, they could give part ownership to Weber, a la Lemiuex?

There's no question Pominville has been a consistent player, and he is to be commended for that. However, Bobby Ryan is a better player than Jason Pominville. If the reason a hypothetical Pominville for Ryan trade, or even Pominville and a pick for Ryan trade falls through is because there are a couple of wingers still on the team that aren't as consistent as Jason Pominville, Darcy Regier should be fired. You don't win cups that way. Bobby Ryan would be an upgrade over Jason Pominville. If that deal is on the table, you take it. It improves your team. |

And until he takes his correct role as a 2nd line winger and the Sabres upgrade or develop better ones, they will remain a team that msses the playoffs or get knocked out in the 1st round. He's a nice, quaint player but not one who leads the way to championships. |

Bobby Ryan is a better player on the Ducks. There's no way to know that he would perform the same here in Buffalo. I would actually venture a guess that his performance would take a hit because that's always what seems to happen when players come here. |

I Pominville, but the fact that he is our best and most consistent player, doesn't show that he is mad at himself for missing the net like Vanek, and is awesome is kinda why we are a borderline playoff team. Maybe that the CORE is on its way out, we can see some improvements in our team.
Riddle me this... why does it always seem that Philly, Rangers, Pens, are always grabbing the big names, despite cap issues, etc? Status quo here in Buffalo, and the big three are always making huge moves, that generally pay off.
Can we not do that? |

I just do not agree with this... I think Ryan is a better guy at hitting and giving his body... but Pommer is better at playing his zone and not being a defensive liability..
Pommer averages over 2 mins on the PK and over 3 mins on the PP.. whereas Ryan averages 42 seconds on the PK and 2 mins of PP.
Pommer has played on this team for years and has put up very good stats..
Ryan has played with Getzlaf and Perry his entire career and I would be willing to be they have VERY VERY comparable stats. |
