I still think he would exceed Pominville here, even with a drop off, though I see where you're coming from and don't necessarily disagree. However, my bigger point is this, if you're making a trade with a team for an upgrade, and that team wants Jason Pominville, you give him to them. I don't care how consistent or how much of a fan favorite he is. Jason Pominville is a player that, ideally, on a very good team, complements your star players, not vice versa. You need to get that star player first.

I'm with you. There are other wingers I'd rather give up first. I'd much rather give up Vanek for someone like Bobby Ryan, or even Rick Nash, than Jason Pominville, but if that team doesn't want Vanek, and wants Pominville instead, you still have to make that deal.

i don't think moving either one of them makes this team that much better, at least this season. Moving a top prospect + makes more sense in the short term, because we need more talent in our top 6. Upgrading one winger doesn't solve that we need more players with top 6 skill.

That's interesting since his career high in points is lower than Pommers 2nd highest for his career.

My memory is foggy. How long did it take before the Sabres announced they were going to match Edmonton's offer for Thomas Vanek?

Statistically, Pommer has been a more consistent producer. He also has a better career high for points. The only thing that Ryan has done better than Pommer is score 30 goals every year. And it's not exactly like he's scoring high 30s. His career high is 35, which is only 1 more than Pommers.
- HonkFortheGoose

You didn't address the bigger, younger and more skilled part but whatever, Pommer is a looker and the Sabres must keep him.

Anyway, 30 goals 4 straight years is really consistent if you ask me and for a power forward even more impressive.

I'm not arguing that the Sabres should trade Pominville, but they better get better and bigger on the wing if they want to win the cup.

Pommer - .796 PPG
Ryan - .780 PPG

Pommer's best 3 seasons - 73, 80, and 68.
Ryan's best 3 seasons - 71, 64, and 57

Last 3 seasons - Pommer has missed 9 games while Ryan has missed 1.

Ryan averages over 100 hits a year while Pommer averages about 40.

Pommer usually has more takeaways than giveaways.. Ryan averages more giveaways than takeaways.

Ryan is bigger... Pommer is faster with better accuracy.

Pommer is our Captain at 5.3M for 2 more years..

Ryan is the smallest of the Big 3 in Anaheim making 5.1M for 4 years.

If you replace Ryan with Pommer in Anaheim and i think Pommer gets even better numbers... but if you replace Pommer with Ryan in Buffalo.. Ryan gets worse numbers.

Now you're making assumptions that I want to keep him because you believe I must think he's attractive. Well, that has nothing to do with it.

I'm not a girl that bases what players she wants on her team by how they look. That has NOTHING to do with it.

Ryan may hit more. Big whoop. At the end of the game, does that matter? No. The team that scores more than the other one wins. Considering that we seem to have trouble with that, I think it's stupid to trade our most consistent player. But hey, I'm a girl and apparently don't know how to reason things out that way and only base my opinions about players by how they look.

Where is this trade Pommer stuff coming from? I would be all for it as everyone knows I do not like him. I will admit I did like his game this past year though!!

Bobby Ryan is also 5 years younger, and has a lot more time to top that, and I believe he will, as do most in hockey circles. He has the physical traits to do it.

Ask 28 other GM's who they rather would have straight up, and I am willing to bet almost anything the answer is Bobby Ryan by double-digits.

I will admit I have asked several females who there favorite player is. Pominville was always a top choice. The reason, his looks.

I dont get that from Goose or you. You two know your poop.

If it matters, why doesn't that determine the winner of the game? Oh, that's right. Because scoring is what determines that.

BTW, way to avoid the fact that you felt the need to put words in my mouth. Didn't feel the need to address my rebuttal?
