i don't think moving either one of them makes this team that much better, at least this season. Moving a top prospect + makes more sense in the short term, because we need more talent in our top 6. Upgrading one winger doesn't solve that we need more players with top 6 skill. - BuffaJoe
If the goal is to upgrade at wing, and the price is a roster player instead of a prospect, do you just stand pat? I can't think of a team that won a cup that way. |

If it matters, why doesn't that determine the winner of the game? Oh, that's right. Because scoring is what determines that.
BTW, way to avoid the fact that you felt the need to put words in my mouth. Didn't feel the need to address my rebuttal? - HonkFortheGoose
I would say teh teams that hit more tend to win more

Agreed. And it's not even an upgrade if any. It's almost a lateral move. Pommers doesn't wanna leave Buffalo and Ryan probably wouldn't be to excited to play here so why would you trade? Stafford+ I could see the reasoning, but not a lateral move like Pominville |

Bobby Ryan is also 5 years younger, and has a lot more time to top that, and I believe he will, as do most in hockey circles. He has the physical traits to do it.
Ask 28 other GM's who they rather would have straight up, and I am willing to bet almost anything the answer is Bobby Ryan by double-digits. - buffalofan19
Don't get me wrong, I like Bobby Ryan, I just don't see him as a huge upgrade over Pommer, that's all. I'd love to get someone like him on my team, but I don't think moving Pommer would be the best decision. If I'm "upgrading" Pommer, I want someone who is actually performing better statistically already than Pommer. |

Hitting does matter by the way. Look up cause and effect and get back to me. - GilPerreault
I'd rather has goal scoring then hitting on my team. Just an opinion though. Some people like the rough and tough, i like the dazzle and skill. |

Now you're making assumptions that I want to keep him because you believe I must think he's attractive. Well, that has nothing to do with it.
I'm not a girl that bases what players she wants on her team by how they look. That has NOTHING to do with it.
Ryan may hit more. Big whoop. At the end of the game, does that matter? No. The team that scores more than the other one wins. Considering that we seem to have trouble with that, I think it's stupid to trade our most consistent player. But hey, I'm a girl and apparently don't know how to reason things out that way and only base my opinions about players by how they look. - HonkFortheGoose
You mean women don't judge players solely based on attractiveness?
That's baffling |

If the price was Stafford +, we'd all be ecstatic, which is exactly why the Ducks would be really stupid to make that move. You have to give up something that's fair in return, something the Ducks would want that would improve their team either in the short or the long run. Stafford does neither, not when Bobby Ryan goes the other way. |

Where is this trade Pommer stuff coming from? I would be all for it as everyone knows I do not like him. I will admit I did like his game this past year though!! - soljor09
What I'm arguing is that Pominville is far from untouchable. He doesn't need to be dealt, but if the Sabres want to win the Cup he can't be your teams best winger/forward. Others seem to have put him on a pedestal that's just homer silliness. |

WEll the kings didn't trade Dustin Brown or Anze Kopitar to get Mike Richards or Jeff Carter...
There are certain players that you just do not trade because they play such a vital role.. you trade others in order to add to the group...
You trade a Simmonds, Voracek, and Schenn... You trade a D-man.
We will trade a Stafford or a Leo/Sekera..
If you ask me.. you trade Pommer AND Sekera to get Ryan.. we got worse. Pommer and Ryan are a wash of eachother and that is being nice! |

I like the dazzle and skill as well but I really like a player that can hit and dazzle and skill, which are few and far between which makes a player like Ryan, at his age, much more valuable than Pominville. |

I agree that no one should be untouchable, but he is the last person I would trade.
There was some advanced statistic that showed Pomminville played some of the toughest competition per minute played. |
