WEll the kings didn't trade Dustin Brown or Anze Kopitar to get Mike Richards or Jeff Carter...
There are certain players that you just do not trade because they play such a vital role.. you trade others in order to add to the group...
You trade a Simmonds, Voracek, and Schenn... You trade a D-man.
We will trade a Stafford or a Leo/Sekera..
If you ask me.. you trade Pommer AND Sekera to get Ryan.. we got worse. Pommer and Ryan are a wash of eachother and that is being nice! - JVince11
None of the bolded 3 have the trade value that the others had, not even close. To get a player of Bobby Ryan's caliber or better, you have to give up someone that "hurts" to lose. That would be a Grigorenko, Armia, McNabb or Girgensons (maybe Pysyk) if you're talking prospects. It would mean Myers, Ennis, Hodgson, Pominville, or Vanek if you are talking roster players. |

If the goal is to upgrade at wing, and the price is a roster player instead of a prospect, do you just stand pat? I can't think of a team that won a cup that way. - buffalofan19
No, but I personally don't think that Ryan is more than a slight upgrade, and Pominville has proven that he can produce even with a significant lack of talent around him. I think there is a risk that Ryan won't produce as well, since he'd be getting a downgrade in teammates. It's not an easy call, but you also have to take into consideration some other changes that are happening to the team, so I don't think as an organization, they're standing pat. In this situation though, I would stick with Pominville.
My goal, if I were Darcy, would be to try to add that top 6 forward without losing one, and if I had to lose one, I wouldn't want it to be the captain/most recent best player. |

I agree, I think Myers is the closest to untouchable but he isn't. |

Grigs, Armia, Girgensons, Pommer, Myers, Ehrhoff, and Miller are the people that I would NOT trade in any deal..
Darcy has expanded to that list with Hodgson and Ennis.
You can argue all you want on here.. but its not gonna change Darcy's mind set already in place..
Vanek, Stafford, McNabb, Pysyk, Leo, Sekera, Gerbe, Leino, Adam, Catenacci, Sundher, Leduc
are in play I bet... |

You said teams that hit more win more, well Vancouver is probably in the bottom 3rd of the league in terms of hitting and they won the President's Trophy 2 years in a row and made it to the SCF last year. So your theory isn't exactly accurate. |

What I'm arguing is that Pominville is far from untouchable. He doesn't need to be dealt, but if the Sabres want to win the Cup he can't be your teams best winger/forward. Others seem to have put him on a pedestal that's just homer silliness. - GilPerreault
Pomivilles a difference maker thats a fact. Can he lead this team on his own ? No .Few players if any can but all and all hes worth his weight in gold for what he does . I place him above Vanek in his worth to this team and so our number one forward in my opinion. |

I'm not saying they should trade those players, just that is what other teams are going to want. Drew Stafford is not going to get you Bobby Ryan, or anyone else of equal or better caliber unless the others I mentioned are involved. No GM would do that, unless they're intentionally trying to be fired, and sabotage the team first. |

Chicago doesn't exactly kill people either.. they have a few d-men.. but I don't think they exactly have it in their forwards group..
Detroit aren't exactly big hitters either...
NJD aren't big hitters...
NYR can be at times.. |
