Assuming the Devils are picking 7th, I think Rantanen will still be there for sure. Marner should be gone, unless he Cam Fowler's on us. If I were the Devils I would gamble on Matt Barzal. He has kind of gone forgotten on the low scoring Thunderbirds and missed large time with an injury. Really starting to heat up, is a May birthday unlike most of the guys in that 7-12 range, plays centre and was a beast at the Ivan Hlinka and easily on par (if not better) than Marner, Strome and Crouse in that tournament.
Rantanen is good and wouldn't be a bad choice, but I think the Devils desperately need a centre and not a winger. |

True I would love potential number one Center I. The system but size seems to be an issue with almost all of them. Strome is nice but will likely be gone and I have read by many that he never jumps off the screen at you and is good at everything and spectacular at nothing so that doesn't get me to excited. If rantanen is a power forward what is the difference between him and crouse ? Barzal I think is interesting but has he not been touted as a two way guy? We have Zajac on an immovable contract so the two way low skill center position is locked down for a while. To be honest I'm not going to be shocked if LOU moves our pick for a kessel type player because he doesn't rebuild ( I hpe to God we keep the pick and take our chances on developing our own star ) |

The term "power forward" is getting really stretched in my opinion. Some use it for basically anybody over 6'2 (JVR who is soft as butter). Some use it to mean a gritty winger with enough scoring ability to get out of the "grinder" tagline (Lucic). Some use it to mean a puck protector (Hossa). Some use it to describe players that make power moves to the net often even if they never throw a hit like say Rick Nash.
So many definitions.
Rantanen is more puck protection style of "power forward," Crouse sort of fits into the gritty winger that can hypothetically score enough to not be a grinder.
As for Barzal, he has the two-way tagline, but he has some serious offensive upside. He's the second highest PPG for draft eligibles in the WHL after Merkley (who now has Draisaitl and has Bowey-Morrissey running the backend) and plays on a team that really doesn't score if it isn't him or Shea Theodore doing it. He was nearly a PPG as a 16 year old rookie. Heck, he's 7 or something points off leading his team despite missing 20 or so games to that guy |

Kinda funny how quickly he seemed to disappear after his injury. Obviously comparisons usually overhype players, but I recall a time where he was being called the next RNH (seems fair from an outside perspective). Really curious to see where he falls. |

This is why we need to be loading up on picks, ship the vets out!
Andersson looks ridiculous, and as a sea dogs local, both Zboril and Chabot are good, but Zboril is easily a first rounder while Chabot is possibly overhyped IMO.
Chabot likes to rush the puck, but he gets a lot of his points by rushing it all the way down the ice, setting up at the far end, and making passes while someone covers his assignment at the blue line. His speed and reach advantage is responsible for a lot of that, and both of those will vanish in the NHL. I think he'll take a while to develop into a dominant NHL player, if he ever does.
Zboril has the stuff you can't teach, vision and reflexes in spades.
But who knows, these are prospects after all - but one has looked far better as a sea dog IMO. |

I thought the canucks should pull a NYI and draft all defencemen in this draft. With swedes like Oliver Kylington, Jesper lindgren, gabriel Carlsson, Jacob Larsson. This draft has tons of good D in it. |

Why would they pick him after winning the lottery? Hunters value more likely for the later picks. |

Adam French: The Real Reason 2015 is Considered a "Deep Draft" - AdamFrench
Great write up, thanks!
With the Flyers likely picking around 10th-12th, and a glaring need at both D and on the wings, who of the following do you see still available at that spot and who do you feel would be the best fit.
Provorov
Crouse
Werenski
Kylington
Rantanen
Zacha
Roy
Chabot
Thanks! |

With Provorov's injury it might allow him to fall a little, if I'm the Flyers he's the guy I want. Depending on how Crouse does at the U18's his ranking is still pretty much up in the air imo. If Provorov is gone and Werenski is still there for some reason, snap him up. He's amazing. |

Awesome thanks and I agree wholeheartedly, even with Morin, Ghostisbehere and Sanheim in the fold, they could still use another blue chip D prospect.

Adam, let's say you're the Leafs.
Marner, Strome, Hanifin and McEichel are off the board. Who do you take? - systemtool
My heart says Provorov, my gut says Barzal and that little voice in the back of my head says destroy the world and pick Rasmus Andersson.
I probably might want to pick with my brain at some point though. |

Interesting you didn't have Zacha. Had him on my radar.
Go blog and good work, thanks for your view! |

how much more heated debate would there be if McDavid was the American and Eichel was the Canadian?
quite surprising to me that the whole #1 pick debate is not really a debate...
team ending up with second overall pick might be the one ending up with the best player in this draft.. |

Crouse......he had a lot of chemistry with gauthier at the WJHC........and it would be such a "nonis pick". sorry, couldn't help myself. |
