How exciting to have a new thread to discuss this Avalanche off season. In which strange directions and on what terrible tangents will we go together?

I like the Andreas Martinsen signing, its is nice one. AHL guy with potential to be called up if he impresses on the Rampage. Could be another Everberg. Low risk high reward singing, I like it.

Now we need to steal Mike Reilly from the rumoured Wild landing spot for him.
That would be a nice start to the offseason since he will be able to sign before the draft and when UFA starts. Long shot for him, but who knows.

I think it depends who his C is

If he goes with Dutchy and Iggy on a line, i think he produces at the same clip the precious years. But if he is playing with Mitchell and tangs on the 3rd line, I can't see him getting the same totals, no matter how good Tangs is still playing.

3LW - Jamie Mcginn
3C - Connor Bleackley
3RW - Alex Tanguay

4LW - Cody McLeod
4C - John Mitchell

Jan Hejda re-signed for one-year at $3,000,000

Bleackley is on a 9-game tryout to gain experience and see what he'll look like down the road

Hishon fills the 3C roll if Bleackley is not ready

Traded Brad Stuart for whatever picks/prospects and cap flexibility

Traded Nick Holden for picks/prospects

No No No on some of these moves. First Stewart, and Second Bleackley (the kid isn't even close to ready), and third Hejda. I like Hjalmarrson but he isn't going anywhere, and especially not for Elliott and 1st round pick, the guy is too good and on too good of a contract.

Landy ROR Mack
(X) Dutch Iggy
McGinn (X) Tang
McLeod Mitchell Everberg

Those should be the lines going forward, and either they bring in a new 3rd line C from UFA (Soderberg) or give Hishon a shot, thats the option I see for the 3rd line. Dutch's wing depends on who we draft, if they go for a guy like Crouse, I could see him making the team based on the competition of camp compared to our current wingers.
Or they take a look at a UFA like Frolik who would fit Roys mold of PK defensive responsible Top 9 wingers.

The D is even more tricky since there is no way to get rid of Stuart or Holden. Since they are now entering the 1st years of new deals, we can't even buy them out. Someone would have to straight up trade for them, and I can't see that happening unless they are throw ins in a trade with a forward of more value (McGinn)

Barrie and EJ have to stay separate, no point in putting them together on the top pairing, 2RHS together, and then 2LHS in Bigras Hjalmarrson, Roy likes he Lefty Righty combos if he can get away with it.

I like the thought train of where we need upgrades, but to me, thats wasn't the way to reshape this roster

We must be watching a different Stewart, the only time he brings determination on the ice is when he's traded or put in the dog house for a while.

We would have to give McGinn away if we tossed Holden of Stuart with him. Any value he has would go right down the tube ha.

Those defensive contracts are definitely the biggest problem I see with this team going forward.

I know, to do that we would be going 1 step forward 2 steps back by having to sacrifice Mcginn just to get rid of those contracts.

We are stuck with Stuart unless he retires or requests a trade back to Cali. No one takes him on his own.

Holden we can get rid of but take a major hit in doing so. I think he should be sent to the AHL, at least hes not taking up a roster spot even if he still has a portion of his cap hit still counting (800k) I believe. I hope he is put on waivers to start the season. Guys like Seimens and Elliott should take his spot.

Good hire for the Avs, this guy is supposed to be one of the "new wave" GM-types. Analytical and good with cap management and such.

thats what I have been reading up on the guy. AHL oriented guy who supports youth movement.

As pointed out by some of the Avs twitter guys, important to note hes a guy in a significant role with the team from outside the Organization, not an ex player, or QMJHL Roy connection hire. Big step for management

I wish the Canucks would do the same. Our scouting sucks and we still have the same ex-Canucks leading the charge outside of the 1 or 2 guys Gillis brought in.

Even better. Give Sakic an unbiased approach to the UFA and trades market.
what a great start to the offseason. Apparently he was the voice behind the Hartnell trade. Give this man the trade reigns going into the draft

Now all you need is to trade #10 for Hamhuis

Unless you prefer Bieksa....God help you if you do.

I think Hammer would be a great addition for you guys, ideally you get to talk with his agent first(I'm sure Hamhuis and Sakic both being BC boys could help) and already know that a contract extension can happen.

He played with Yannick freaking Weber all year long, came back early from an injury and was still solid. He can handle himself against top forwards for sure and move the puck well to start a breakout. He and Tanev are the only two defensemen on the team who are steady night in and night out and rarely have a bad game.

I like hamius, he wound be an ideal fit, but not for the 10th, not with the current 1 way contract mess already in place.

Avs can't afford to trade away the 2 top picks this year. poorest prospect pool in the league. They need to concentrate on RoR and EJ extensions, then go figure out how to improve the d core by getting rid of Stuart and Holden. Do all that and maybe they could look at adding.
