I’m glad YZERMAN deemed it necessary to get Vasilevskiy done ahead of Brayden Point...
Seriously Ek.... |

The NHL goaltending fraternity owes Bobrovski and Vasilevskiy a debt of gratitude. |

I'm fine with the term, the AAV is a gut-punch to a degree.
I would have been fine with 7, sighed and accepted 8.... 9.5 is a bit nuts.
But... Vasy is a hell of a goaltender. So, even while real overpaid (though I tend to call for lower rates for goalies) he'll be a stabilizing force in between the pipes for a decade to come. |

While this was expected to be tough, sources tell me Yzerman deemed Andrei Vasilevskiy's deal necessary to get done prior to Brayden Point..
Why would Tampa care what Yzerman deems necessary? |

This is very exciting. I wonder what Point gets now. |

How is this going to affect the Point signing, if at all? Surprised Vasy signed ahead of Point. |

Montreal doesn't have the assets to trade for Laine. Laine is only 21 and is VERY likely to be a yearly 40-50 goal scorer. Drouin is garbage and is 26, I think. The idea that Drouin, a 1st round pick, and a B level prospect is going to be fair value for Laine is a joke.
Montreal just doesn't have what it SHOULD take to get Laine. But Chevy is a moron, an earthworm would be a smarter GM, so anything is possible. |

Enlighten me how the Price deal is worse

Shouldn't you know something, anything at all about a team in order to comment on their assets? Domi, Kotkaniemi, Poehling, Suzuki, Caufield, Brook, Primeau, Juulsen, Fleury, Romanov.
But you're right, Montreal doesn't have anything to trade.

10.5M for a 30+ yr old goalie with injurie issues.
Yup, best contract ever. |

I would assume there would be more to the trade in terms of pieces, but what about a starter of;
Marner
-for-
Laine
I think Laine will come in ($$) a bit under what Marner is looking for. Winger for point producing winger.
Not sore what fans of these teams would think, but seems to be a good deal for both. Both high talent young players. |

Leafs need Marners play making abilities. Already have strong goal scores like Matthew's and Tavares. Marners speed, hockey IQ, two way play and ability to make others around him better is not worth trading. Too valuable.

How can Tampa keep signing their players to such big contracts and keep under the cap? |

According to a cap site, they have 14 million next year in cap space with only 13 players signed. That doesn't even include Point. |

As a Winnipegger,
I would love to see this trade from a Jet's perspective.
Marner is a class above Liane...hands down.
As a Hawks fan living in Winnipeg....I would still prefer to see Marner here than Liane.
Personally,
I think the Leafs would be moronic to do this trade.
