Honestly, nothing short of 4 points from these two games is acceptable!

Sad stat is that Lucic has 3 goals & 3 assists in 6 games with Sutter. That is more than Gaudreau & Monahan combined during the same period. These two have to start playing up to their $13.0 mill per cap. I really honestly think its time to break those two up & play them together only on the PP. |

Definitely need to get 4 points against the Sens and as much as I hate to say it I hope the Oilers beat the Habs in regulation. |

Believe me if they get anything close to NHL goaltending it will not be easy to get 4 points. It could happen but it will be a battle both nights. |

Watching Johnny is really painful now
Not sure there is a point, but is Sutter going to try someone else with more skill on that line? Ritchie crash/bangs but has stone hands. Johnny is scared poopless to go into the corners and Monohan is an easy double-team in that situation.
I can't believe I am suggesting this... maybe Lucic? Dubes and breadman work hard, but are tiny.

Have you SEEN Looch try to handle a pass lately? Ritchie's hands are way more solid right now than Lucic's... If you look back at their best years, they were with either Hudler or Lindholm on the right side. Mangiapane would seem to be the closest fit (outside of Backlund) to either of those guys.
I am also of the opinion that they shouldn't "need" to find the right fit on that line. They are 2 really good hockey players and that should be what that line needs to succeed. They've got 2 very solid lines at the top, and we see Lindholm/Tkachuk playing at a generally higher level than Mony Johnny on a consistent basis. |

Was reading on Hockey Writers site yesterday that were discussing a perfect match trade between Flyers & Flames. Flyers struggling to get going & they suggested many agree the perfect trade would be Gaudreau & a 2nd for Konecky & a 4th or 5th. Feel Gaudreau will have the room on the Flyers to play his game & give Flyers the trial run & inside track to resign Johnny. Flames get a kid that will fit Sutters system better.
I dont think the 2nd is necessary but if need be kick in one of our extra 3rds. Probably would be a pretty prudent trade for both teams. |

I could deal with that trade he put up 61 points last year and 40+ points the prior two seasons. He a right hand shot right winger and 24 years old. Let's face it Gaudreau is as good as gone. I know it is a small sample size but Gaudreau can't play the Sutter style of hockey.

Interesting. The Flyers are hurting. They have a talented team that is in win now mode. JG gets to go home. Makes sense but not sure if it happens till after the season.
Edit: Trading JG in the midst of a playoff push would be a way to challenge this team. If they can win without him that might provide some confidence. Not that he has been doing a lot lately.
I figured Sutter wanted JG to play Sutter's brand of hockey. Then start giving JG some space once he had brought in. Supposedly no one gets special treatment. I respect that. |

I can get behind Konecny - I don't think JG will ever fit into a Sutter system, one that requires accountability for a team game. Johnny's overall year really hasn't been horrible, just not dominant. At all. I was poking fun at his stickchecks last week - he might as well not even bother for the amount of effort he bothers to put in most of the time.

@ Kevin
I think it was the Athletic that had that article, but it doesn’t matter who wrote it, it’s a good trade suggestion for both teams. With papa Gaudreau hired by the Flyers to coach their u15 team, we know Johnnys not staying. Flyers need a shakeup, Flame need an asset. Kornecny would be a good fit here, he’s Bo Horvat’s cousin and is younger and cheaper. He would definitely fit the Sutter type.
Not sure why no coach has put Johnny on the right side where he played in Boston.
Tkachuk, Lindholm, Gaudreau could be a true #1 line
Really disappointed in Monahan, he’s been next to invisible this year. Not sure how to change that or get him into the game. For the top goal scorer from his draft class it’s really frustrating to watch. Not sure if there’s a team out there that would be interested in giving up picks and prospects for him.
Why does Treliving continue to look for right wing help when we have one of the better RW in the AHL? Mathew Phillips has put up good numbers the last 2 years. He’s leading 5he team in scoring and would have last year if it wasn’t for the injury. Googles my mind that they continue to recycle ufa’s and don’t play the kids.
This team needs an injection of talent and some of the Heat players deserve an opportunity. It’s not like we’re running away with the division, to continue to sign so called player castoffs is crazy.
Some here still feel if Markstrom can up his save percentage to .915 that the Flames could be playing for 1st in the North. Then on the other side saying Rittich needs to play more. I agree Rittich needs to play more but he hasn’t been the same since his stick flip vs the Oilers last year. He need to seize his opportunity when given and make it hard not to play him.
K I’ve vented enough, hows everyone feel about this? |

I mean its probably a good fit for both teams.
Phily gets a hometown boy who will be motivated, resign upon UFA and help their woeful PP (21st).
Calgary gets a 25 year old right shot RW with term and some cap savings.
Interesting to note amongst Flyers forwards, TK is 7th in TOI/GP averaging only 15:40 so fair to say he has not had a stellar season either.
I personally think its time to look beyond the 2 week quarantine and trade JG already!

That trade isn’t fair for the Flames. They give the superior player and a better pick? I’d be highly upset by that trade.
People complain about Gaudreau’s playoff performances but Konecny is statistically worse in the playoffs. |

It’s not about the playoffs, we don’t have to worry until we’re actually a playoff team.
The risk for Philly is higher, they give up an asset for a player they probably get for free. We all know that Johnnys not happy in Calgary and will bolt to Philadelphia as soon as he’s a free agent. Adding a 2nd and getting a 4th is meh.
This is a no brainer for me,as I’ve watched Johnny under Sutters guidance and he’s useless. He’s not a forecheck go in the corner type at all. He’s playing scared right now and it shows.
Let’s take what we can get and move on. |
