Karine Hains: Could Shea Weber Be Done? Last night, TVA Sports’ Renaud Lavoie dropped a bomb on Habsland, he reported that the Canadiens’ captain was dealing with several serious injuries and that as a result, Marc Bergevin wasn’t going to include him on his protected list for the expansion draft.

Personally, I do not think a decision will really have to be made because the more I read on the topic and the more I think he may be exempt from selection because he is battling career ending injuries. According to the NHL site, if a player hasn’t played the last 60 games or has otherwise been confirmed to have a career threatening injury, he may be deemed exempt from selection.

Good blog. Too many questions right now but it could be a long term blessing in disguise and prevent the Habs from trying to double down on last seasons success...or they'll do something stupid like going with Barrie.

Outside of Hamilton and Jones there aren't any known available options that can even shine Weber's jock let alone be considered an adequate replacement. Is Dunn still potentially available? He may be a decent #4 to build with. Too many questions.

Could they have found their last missing coach?

Wouldn't expect it, but if they feel they have a legitimate shot at the Cup, it could be a way of having his name on it.

I know this doesn't necessarily mean anything but I wonder if Kekalainen would be willing to consider MTL as a trading partner again, after the obvious failure that was the Anderson trade lol

Domi and Anderson scored the same amount of points this season, fun fact.

Better question is would either guy sign long term? No point trading for one season of Jones. If he'll sign, picks, prospects, rock and (frank)ing role

yup, but most of us didn't complain about it since Anderson brings a lot to the table even if he isn't putting up points on the board, which I doubt was the case for Domi in CLB

Take the regular seasons off and come back for the playoffs. Bergy can sign extra players to fill in for the regular season

Practice for a month and a half to get in game shape

Be ready for game 1 of the playoffs

Unlikely. By most reports it sounds like he's completely done

Why not?

It apparently shows how smart and savvy a franchise and a GM is

Even if Weber is worn down, I'm sure he can manage to play a couple months a year

He's just gotta act that way so the Habs can make the hard sell for LTIR

Apparently he is also on deaths door. LTIR for sure

Great blog Karine.

Thanks for the info about the expansion and the possible career threatening injuries, didn't know that!

So, how does that work? Klefbom missed the entire season and could miss another, yet he is not exempt? If Weber was going to be ruled exempt, you would think that would have been ruled on long before two days prior to the protection list deadline.

So with this new situation.

It seems obvious we're losing Allen.

Or Cale Fleury.

Well to be exempt, the player's injuries must be "career threatening".

If Klefbom had medical reports suggesting something similar, I'm guessing he would be exempt as well.

Assuming, of course, Holland actually knows about this.
