I was surprised to see Nick Suzuki’s name on that list of bad contracts. I thought that if a Canadiens’ player would be on there, it would be Carey Price and his $10.5. million cap hit or Brendan Gallagher who’s got a contract for services rendered rather than for what’s to come - Karine Hains
Good analysis Karine ...
I think the best is to come with Suzuki, he's likely to get a better left winger (Slaf) ... along with Caufield, these 3 could be the Habs offensive engine for the next 10 years.
Slaf (power forward) - Suzuki (play maker) - Caufield (sniper)
That seems like a good balance to me and hard to defend against.
Obviously, we all hope it works out as planned but having some potent weapons on Suzuki's wings will surely only make him better IMO.
As for what's his name (Luszhkfszcxxsfznljxzy or whatever), I'm sure he could have found many worst contracts around the league (ie. Price, Gallagher as you mentioned) if he had looked around long enough.
PS: As for KK, I think he'll never be nothing more than a 3rd line center ... just a gut feeling (he lacks strength and speed).
PPS: Who knows, the Cane's retaliation for Bergy's ill-advised Aho offersheet might have been a blessing (2022 1st first and 3rd round picks) in disguise ... time will tell. Aho's offersheet was a Hail Mary by Bergy to save his job (because of bad drafting and development).
PPPS: Bergy was tarnishing the Habs reputation (Aho offersheet, Logan Mailloux drafting, fkuped cap management, poor results after 10 years) ... Molson saw the light and had to fire him before fans rebelled. |

Suzuki isn't anywhere close to being a bad contract.
That guy has a terrible system for these types of evaluations. |

the Athletic is basically paying Dom Luszczyszyn to build this new model, he said it himself that it needs tweaking, Suzuki on the list being proof of that lol |

Nurse on the list adds some credibility to the model though, lol. |

Blown away when i first saw the athletic article. Thought the author was a lunatic. Price? Ya, I could see that. Bring up the Scott Gomez thing just for fun? I'd accept that. But Suzuki? The only guy who remotely produced points during the ducharme era and who really took off under St. Louis... Just a yikes selection. |

oh well there is some logic behind the math to build the list, it isn't because a few names are questionable that none of them belong there. |

agreed but it isn't a "selection", he's using advanced stats. for example, one stat that Lycysysnsnsnx came up with (and which is being used to generate the list) is called a player's game score, here is the formula :
Player Game Score = (0.75 * G) + (0.7 * A1) + (0.55 * A2) + (0.075 * SOG) + (0.05 * BLK) + (0.15 * PD) – (0.15 * PT) + (0.01 * FOW) – (0.01 * FOL) + (0.05 * CF) – (0.05 * CA) + (0.15 * GF) – (0.15* GA) |

Hains: One of the 10 Worst Contracts in the League belongs to the Canadiens
According to the Athletic’s Dom Luszczyszyn, Nick Suzuki’s contract is the 9th worst in the NHL. - Karine Hains
The guy wanted publicity.
He got it.
He concept is flawed on many levels. But if you take it on face value, then you can say Suzuki currently is not a $7.9 Million dollar player.
Based on his improvement as a player YoY, and them finding a better suited winger to line up with him and CC (maybe someone they might have just drafted....), I suspect you will not be able to say that after this year.... or next year at the latest.

Anyone can pull up stats out of their bottom orifice ... making fancy looking equations means nothing until empirical evidence has shown that it's meaningful.
In my opinion, a much better approach would be to calculate the position of the Moon when a player was born and then to take into account his PKH/day ratio (Phil Kessel Hamburger/Day). |

I get what you're saying. I think advanced stats need to be considered by teams, not necessarily by fans, it all depends on the way they're being applied. decisions shouldn't be made solely based on them but they can be very useful imho.

watch the game. another proof that advanced stats alone are bs.
also, maybe that report will motivate Suzuki for next season |

If Suzuki has a great year they need to trade him while his value is high |

You're going to compare suzuki at 7.9 and matthews at 10.5 and 5 years.....because Suzuki term is longer it makes it a better contract....tampa thought the same thing with Drouin.....Dallas with Seguin....go look at those now. If after 5 years leafs havent won anything then its time to let matthews and his 11 million walk . ...instead of investing more and more cap |

agreed in a way but at the same time in this particular case we're talking about a model that was created by an author from the Athletic. I highly doubt that the advanced statisticians the habs have hired use the same formulas lol |

No one compared Suzuki to Matthews.
Not that it matters much (Matthews is obviously the better player, 1st pick) ... but Suzuki has already been to the Cup final at 22 while Matthews has never gone beyond the first round.
Habs only count Cups ... Leafs count "big names" (Borje Salming, Rick Vaive, Darryl Sittler, Matts Sundin, Doug Gilmour, Austin Matthews, etc. have never won a Cup).

Well unless you were on the team you have won 0. So you and i are tied.
just note, "remember when" is the laziest form of conversation. "we used to be good" is the equal in sports bragging. No one cares about 2021, 2008, 1996, 1993, 1983, 1975 or 1967. It's 2022 or nothing. Next year will be 2023 or nothing.
When we laugh at england for their yellow teeth and poopty food, we'd laugh at them if the comeback was "we used to be the largest empire" |
