This is not the time to be making trades. Rosters are set. Cap has been allocated. Nobody is in the market for a $5M middle 6 winger. This is the same reason why guys like Hellebuyck and Scheifele didn't get traded and why guys like Nylander aren't going anywhere, despite all the E4 talk. Maybe by Jan/Feb teams start to have a better sense of where they are headed, and what their draft capital might look like. Cap hit is also more manageable. That does put a dent in the rumour business though.

from Canucks
Garland and Lafferty
total $6.1 mil cap space

from Chicago
Tyler Johnson (1/2 salary retained), Kurashev, Rangers 2025 4th round pick
total $4.75 mil cap space

Vancouver saves $1.35 mil in cap space this year and $6 mil next year. Hawks have plenty of cap space. Johnson is a rental and could be flipped at the deadline by the Canucks. Kurashev is 24 and signed through next year. Lafferty is a rental. Garland has two more years on his contract.

Basically Hawks gamble that Garland is a 50 pt per year player with some upside. (Maybe more if playing on Bedard's line.) Canucks clear some space and get a veteran presence for their locker room, also get a young cheap 3rd line player that could play up and down the lineup, and a mid round draft pick.

It might also be time to get a new Jets blogger. Seems like we don’t have anyone anymore.

If it’s a pure salary dump, very little will be going back to Vancouver. Maybe 4th round pick.

It crashed due to all the traffic of the blockbuster between Pittsburgh and Vancouver. I'm sure Wk had it on his chart...
