He is already going to take on Cossa as the best goalie prospect Detroit has, and did not cost 3 valuable picks!

I have a good feeling about Augustine. He plays without drama, and lots of confidence, but doesn’t overextend himself. I’m proud of him, as a native Michigan (state) person, and as a goalie dad.

Hope Cossa can put it all together. Fewer young goalies are killing it these days. Seems like mid to late 20s is their more common NHL career point.

My wife and I have this convo a lot. Even flashbacks to the 80s or 90s make the game look completely different. It feels like the position went from a multi faceted and much more physical game (not violence, just in sheer movement) to “fill up the net and get a pad on it”. Yeah, Brodeur made Wings fans nuts but he was so much fun to watch. He could shoot a puck through the camera holes in the glass at the other end of the rink. Now it’s much more about just blocking and staying in your spot. My friend has season tix to MSU hockey and sits behind the home goalie (for 2 periods). I hear nothing but good things about this kid

Bedard has a fractured jaw after a Brendan Smith hit. All of Chicago is moaning about it. Tickets to a Hawk game are worthless for about 6 weeks..... I hope the kid is not concussed as well........

One of the rumor sites did an “emergency” post when it happened. Trying to assure fans that him leaving the ice wasn’t necessarily an indicator of a big problem. Could be trying to avoid something more serious.

I do not want any of the kids injured. I forget how strong the pro players are, even players that don’t appear to be jacked. That kid can skate. He could have been going 20-25 mph when the hit happened. That’s no joke in terms of injury. As long as he’s not concussed, can probably go fishbowl or cage. Just be super cautious. He’s young and never a good idea to get multiple head injuries close together.

Snowflake league 😆😆😆😆😆
Also, try to be patient during a rebuild because young men are trying to find their way in life while simultaneously becoming the man they were raised to be.

Just enjoy the ride and take solace in the fact Yzerman is running the show. Enjoy the rebuild.

I really enjoyed some of the prospects at the IIHF. Danielson and Sandin-Pellikka both have to just get a bit more weight. I don’t know if Augustine will cut his college career short or no. I’m hoping to see Mazur in Red at some point. There’s a lot to like in the pipeline and I don’t think it’s a great idea to sell off to try to get into the playoffs. The cap “rise” has already been reconsidered with a big “if” (down to 4.7 IF projections hold and players still have to vote. They don’t want to pay more escrow) and we need new deals for a few players

Watching the taped DRW v LAK game now...end of the 2d. Veleno played a whale of a game. Sprong was rock steady (like 2d-line worthy...). Lyon just does it right. He's by no means perfect, but 50 games shows he can be a viable 1A/B. Rebound control is exceptional, something Husso just doesn't do at all. Reimer's about 50/50 on control.

Now, I say the above (esp. Lyon) to say, I watched the Gold Medal game this morning; ASP is MUCH better than I thought. Watching games, you get to see what happens away from the puck; ASP positions like a seasoned NHL pro...he's right where the puck is going and wreaks havoc on opposing puck handlers. This kid looks like he can be "It", very early on I know. Needs muscle mass, but he walks the blue line like a Boss. VERY impressed with him. Johansson looked pretty good as well. Dude brings some weight to his hits, deceptively hard hitter and passes with the best of 'em, from what I saw.

Augie....wow. so, the commentators were extolling the virtues of this kid. One of the recurring themes was how masterful he is in controlling rebounds, and his quick lateral movement in the crease. Think it was Hradek commented that his control is better than "most" of the NHL G have been showing this year. Pretty high praise. Again, kid has a LONG way to go, really want to see what he can do. He could be THE man @ MSU and in college hockey next year. Very interested to see his growth. While he may supplant Cossa as the #1 propsect, I still believe Cossa's going to be an NHL-ready G soon. His improvement has been a tad slow, but his game seems to be getting better.....like he's finally getting into his groove, ya know? If they both grow their game, we could end up seeing the hottest G combo in the league, FINALLY!!!

Good things in the pipeline, good times on the horizon. The thing is, we have a pretty good team NOW. Just need to get them clicking and be able to adjust on-the-fly. Still seeing this team lagging behind in adjusting. The LAK game I'm watching, the Kings are taking away time & space quickly...we're not adjusting to that, and the Kings are having free zone entry.....but there's no adjusting going on.....puzzling.

I think, after the IIHFs, you need to add Johansson to the list. Kid was hitting like a freight train, good positioning, anticipated play fairly well. There are several solid bubba's in the pipeline. Mazur looks to be a sleeper that has truly risen well above expectations more quickly than expected. Watched some of his highlights, kid's got the tools.

The problem is, we need to lose some of the guys on the NHL roster to open up slots for the kids. I don't think Fischer will be back, not sure about Rad, Veleno, or ZAR. If I was The Captain, I'd do a deal with Sprong & Kane RIGHT now. Veleno could pull a nice return BUT his value added is exceptional; he's truly elevated & changed his game to fit the team needs....I'd give him 2 more years. I don't see any big moves this year, regardless of SCPO standing. Mazur could well force The Captain's hands if he has a break-out camp. TDL & UFA will be the tell, I think, on who's got a true chance to be on the roster opening night. If we could get Lindholm (and you know what I think....), I'd be willing to part with a more visible name or 2, NOT Danielson but I'd think a trade will require a C going back the other way. Barring that; Ras, Veleno, Bear-Grin from the Big Club would be on offer for sure.

I don't think $4.7m is going to be the final rise, probably closer to $4. We need to sign Mo Sides & Rayzor...Kane, to me, is a must. So who stays, who's re-signed, and who walks? Who do we go after in UFA or at the TDL? There's a LOT of unknowns out there.... Gonna be interesting.

I actually think it will end up at 1-2 mil. The AZ situation, Canadian exchange and some other stuff that will all unfold are going to take their toll. Another day for that mess.

I’m going to repost a video by a YouTuber I really like tomorrow. I had not thought about Johansson in a bit and Sandin Pellikka is playing bigger than his frame. If Danielson and Kasper can progress well, and Mazur keeps getting stronger (plus Edvinsson) there are some exciting things on the way. I think Cossa and Augustine battling it out could be a win win but we’ll see how it goes. Fun stuff on the horizon.

the Cap not going up by $4M would really put Trono in a tizzy with them set to announce the Willie signing at $11.5M AAV! I would enjoy seeing this!

Yeah, those numbers are rough. Matthews has been the strongest negotiator I can remember. Hasn’t gone max term in last 2 deals and gotten well compensated (really well). The CBA and the way the cap are constructed have the players against a wall. Agree to a rise and you’re likely paying the same or more escrow. Don’t agree and jobs disappear. I think it was Friedman that quoted an agent saying there were 20 fewer positions this year as teams couldn’t afford a full roster. But, if any of us were at a job where they reduced our salary by 10-20% if sales were down and said it could be more if we wanted to add more staff, how do you respond? Yes, these guys make millions but retire in their 30s. Take home pay may not last 30 years (if they play long enough they do qualify for a pension) and God help them if anyone went heavy into FTX or some of the other Crypto as part of a portfolio

I'd think that the Cap may be higher because the leaks have driven some action (e.g., Nylander) and the animus may overwhelm Bettman and the league. I'd *think* no more than $4m, but could end up as low as $2m. For me, that's based on the debt that was revealed in the sale of OTT, half a BILLION is just the tip of the ice berg, I'd say. Could be wrong, but teams & players are gping to push harder for a larger Cap....and the league's going to give a bit, but not much. Add in the dumpster-fire that is AZ, and I see a financial calamity looming.....nation wide, being honest.

Watched the Sharks game taped from last week, Lyon was a stud. I watched his rebound control, best I've seen with him this year (LAK was tied for Lyon, I think...). He's square to every shot, takes away to open angles. He's good and getting better. Listen, Sprong may not pot 21G this season, but he is damn good. His shot placement really is impressive, ge's physical, all you need from a player. After watching the LAK & SJS games, his stock is quickly rising. He's a stud and deserves 2 things: play up the line up, and an extension.
