good morning boys & girls
noone is pooping on Gally Pete, we all love him for what he has done and continue to do as a Habs. but that hit is simply not acceptable, a well deserved suspension.

hopefully Newhook is back sooner rather than later, even if I expect him to be a little rusty for a few games once he does come back
I like Monahan but I think the right move is a trade as soon as possible If he gets hurt once again and they miss out on a good return....yeah |

But some want more, like his head on a stick for a brain fart, ask him, he’s probably the most remorseful.
Probably part of that same Apple Dumpling Gang that wanted to burn the franchise down when they drafted Mailoux, and is now singing his praises.. |

I don't think there's anything wrong with Gallagher's assessment of Scheifele's hit, as he'll most likely describe his own in a very similar way.

I think he should have gotten more games, and anyone who does similar, should as well. Setting that hit as a 5 game suspension rather than 8-10 sets a bad precedent. The NHL needs to set new precedents to make their point that this behaviour is not acceptable and will be severely punished.
This is not about Gallagher, but the hit.
Also, I have never, doubt I will ever praise Mailoux. Still think they were wrong in drafting him, that they should get rid of him... but we've had that convo around here too many times in the past to even bother anymore.
But trying to create some kind of false equivalency between people's reactions to these two different events is a waste of time. |

its not a precedent, thats were you are 100% wrong. You think this is the first time a hit like this happen? please. Its the first time you saw it from Gallagher
we have seen the league give 2 games for worse than that.
5 games in this league is a lot. Its the max you can get over a phone earing and Gallagher had a phone earing
I dont like the hit either, but you are talking with your emotions here. Fans do the same with contracts they dont like instead of looking at the market in the NHL in 2024.
Again, 5 games in this league is a lot. And its the first time he gets suspended in 12 years. Go take a look at Marchand and then come back here. |

bah, I'm fine with the 5-game suspension, but I don't necessarily think that asking for more has really anything to do with emotions.
the league has been very inconsistent with how they've handled suspensions and player safety in general, and I wouldn't mind if disciplinary measures became harsher if they could finally be applied consistently from one situation to another. |

"We should take cheap shots to the head out of the game, especially with what we know about the long lasting consequences from brain trauma"
"How dare you say 5 games isn't enough for skating across the rink, launching yourself and elbowing an unsuspecting player in the head. It's his first time ya know?"
"Makes outrageous claims about people who think 5 games wasn't enough " |

If it had been Pelech hitting Gallagher in the same way, I suspect people around here would all be demanding more than 5 games.
Again, this is not about Gallagher, this is about the hit.
And if they want to get rid of them, make the penalty extremely severe. And more consistent in their punishments, across the board. That is my biggest frustration with the league. |

they are slowly but surely increasing the number of games. a few years ago a hit like that would have granted 2 games. now it's 5. excellent. in a few years it will 8 or 10. they're on the right path. maybe changes dont come fast enough, but that is the NHL. very conservative. |

I agree, although I doubt they could ever completely get rid of all hits to the head solely with that incentive, dumb "mistakes" will still happen.
but yeah, at least the message would be clearer.

Agreed 100% on the Gallagher hit. That hit was awful and it warrants more than 5 games for anyone who delivers it. Hab or not, that is irrelevant to the situation.
@Pete, but sorry your take is the bad one on this IMO. Bringing up the fact he's your heart and soul guy, 11 year career or whatever doesn't excuse what he did. Nor should it be a factor in any way. To each their own I guess. |

this I can agree with
maybe the league would be more consistent as well with clear guidelines
but to give 8-10 games like that when it would have been 2 games, that last season or the one before, to a guy that has never done that in 12 years (important fact here, they always look at the history of the player) that would be totally random and come out of the blue. What do you do then to a guy like Marchand or others who have been caught pulling similar crap or even worse, multiple times? 50 games? |
