With Geno out for some time, I’m fine with Dubas using this as a pivot point to begin roster reconstruction.
I would rather us begin trading now so that we don’t have to force trades 5-6 trades at the deadline and maybe miss out on trading some pending UFAs. - Brownsoldier
So basically don't do what Dubas did last year and focus just on Guentzel.
I don't know that any of the UFAs are getting much. DOC's value is down enough they may be don't even bother. Now if they want to move Rackell or Bunting there's a return to be had. Gryz is an interesting one since he's played better lately but is it worth it to them to trade their other top four LD for what he'll get. |

*Geno flies leg first into Stephenson*... Chandler didnt intend to hurt him... haha, that one was all on Geno. Didn't look too bad but they will keep him out for a safe amount of time. As RW mentions, this season is already over, need to make sure he is healthy and good to go for next year. |

Kevin Weekes, the same guy who teased a big move in the summer just to say the Penguins were firing Todd Rierden, just did the same thing the other day and is now saying FSG wants to sell a minority stake of the Penguins. What a tool.
I'm not surprised, FSG is tight pocketed and this is a nightmare money wise for them. Spending near the cap but with lower attendance and no opportunity for playoff revenue. A team like the Penguins should be under the cap by tens of millions considering where they are in the standings.
They also arent beating the allegations that they bought the team mainly for the Mellon Arena development real estate. |

31 gms remaining w/ 62 available points. Pens need 44 additional points to add to the 48 they already have in order to be in the hunt (92 total). This requires a points conversion rate % of 0.700, or ~22 more wins. So far this season, their P% is .471. A mighty hill to climb. Time for the yard sale. |

Was hoping you’d paste your comment to the new blog… thanks.
To your point, DOC has been pretty bad. I still think some teams will certainly want him (VAN). I can honestly see a world where we swap him for Hoglander.
With Malkin sides lines, bunting’s production will probably dip. Get out with his value a high. Same with Rakell and put tomasino in his place on Sid’s wing.
Gryz is on an expiring contract. With his production he can get a 2nd or 3rd rounder. Sell em’.
For the other UFA guys, the most important thing is their roster spot. We need to bring some WBS guys up so getting rid of those guys for literally anything is a bonus imo.

What do you guys think Pitt would offer for JT Miller? How about Marner? Ek says Pitt is in FULL BUYER MODE so they better make a move quickly. |

I’ve never seen your name here, but I can’t see how we are in full buyer mode (unless we are buying draft picks).
First penguins trade could be this weekend once we get back to Pittsburgh. Dubas seems to not like to ruffle the family of the person who’s getting moved so I could see him wa ting to be with his family to let them know in person. |

I think EK has the timeline for us to be aggressive mixed up. We are more likely to be aggressive in the offseason. Currently if we are in on JT Miller, Marner, or Elias Pettersson it is only as a 3rd team in the deal. We want young prospects, young talent, and picks. We are not looking towards making a serious playoff push at this point. |

Nothing. If they buy anything it's to get younger. |

I still watch all the games, but damn last night was a total "go through the motions" performance. That was an ambien performance. Put me to sleep in the 2nd. Dubas can't get the selling on fast enough for me. |

I just watche DOC’s penalty shot. Not even joking, I know 5 guys that played D 3 club hockey 15 years ago that could have made a better attempt. He’s so (frank)ing bad at every aspect of hockey it’s hilarious at this point. Doesn’t hit, doesn’t fight, doesn’t pass all that great, can’t stick handle, can’t protect the puck, weak, no shot. He skates well but it means nothing without a baseline set of NHL skills. Neito would flat out school him on 1-1 drills in the corner. |

Apparently Buffalo is willing to listen to offers on Owen Power... makes sense as he makes a big paycheck and they also have Dahlin, Byram and Samuelsson as natural LD's.
I don't think we have the juice at all for him but boy would that be a nice get for us. Im sure if we get a top 4 pick Buffalo would do that but I honestly don't know if we would given Power's cap hit. |

Trade(s) of the day... Id like to keep Rackell but I think this would be a good enough return that I would go for it.
PIT - Boeser, Hoglander, Descharnais & 2025 2nd
VAN - Rackell, Pettersson & Accari/DOC.
PIT - Skinner & 2026 1st
EDM - Boeser (1/2 ret)
So we get a 1st, 2nd & Hoglander for Rackell, Pettersson and cap space for trading partners.
Vancouver isn't going to give Boeser his big extension, trading for Rackell fills his void at a cheaper contract with term. This way they don't lose him for nothing.
Skinner has a NTC, but he is on an expiring contract and would get to be a top line winger with the Pens. I think he would gladly waive to come to Pittsburgh. Edmonton should be pumped to get a top 6 scoring winger for a 1st. I don't think they like rentals but they are going to need secondary scoring in the playoffs and this is cap neutral to them. |

Would Skinner really rather be a top line wing on the Pens over playing for a team that has a chance to win a Cup? I have to think at this point the Cup means more. Maybe in the off-season coming here to rebuild value would be an attractive option for him. |

You might be right, but the Oilers have used him in a 3rd/4th line capacity with almost no PP time and he has been healthy scratched at times. I think the relationship there is sour and if Edmonton were to go to him and tell him they wanted to trade him, he would take it.
I don't want him next season, only included him here as a cap dump that Edmonton would have to make to have this deal work. |

I’m really not that convinced we’re going to see good players being sold off for picks and prospects. Maybe Petts. Haven’t heard anything from Dubas that tells me he’s being all that active. |

Yep... Brutal year for him. Only has one more point through 52 games than Chef Carter had last year through 72. Gross.

Personally, I'd offer nothing for either one. We cannot afford to spend assets. JT Miller doesnt do anything for me, maybe 2 years ago it made sense, now it doesnt.
I'd only be interested in Marner if he hits free agency. I think Dubas was the one that gave him his last deal, so maybe theres a relationship there. |

Played around while I was eating lunch today.... a team I would actually enjoy watching. Not a cup winner but definitely a playoff team, hopefully helps transition in the post Crosby/Malkin/Letang (and Marchand) years. Not included here is the top 5 pick we should be getting this season and any assets we might pick up for Pettersson & Gryzleck.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind it. I would like us to bring in Brad Marchand to be honest. I feel like he would definitely make Sid have some fun. I think we need to bring in a friend or two of his. Especially if this team still doesn't end up competing. I like what you did. Some grit to the lineup. I know it probably would never happen. I could see us shipping out Bunting, EK, and unfortunately Rakell this offseason. |
