If this is all they got then Farabee and Frost most have very little value. Frost and Pelletier seems like a wash kind of but feel a center will always hold a little more value.
Kuzemenko I am not sure the fit. At 29, could you maybe hope he plays well for a stretch and then move him again at the TDL? Do you let him walk in UFA, if so they do clear money by losing the Farabee contract, no contract for Frost and Kuzemenko.
No really sure I like the trade but I need to see what else happens. Are the Flyers better, no so could help drop closer to a top 5 pick.
Still after last night and the poop with Michkov, the Torts stuff is now become an issue that I think it is time Briere needs to make a decision on his coach. |

As much as I don’t like the Farabee part, I get it. He’s been consistently inconsistent for years now. They managed to trade him during one of his brief “on” moments. The Frost part stings. That kid has been fighting uphill ever since Torts got here. He’s been racking up points in spite of bouncing all over the lineup, being in and out of games, and spending the whole time in Torts’ doghouse. Also, he defends every play and he can stick handle like crazy. He’s just as streaky as every other player on the team. The only reason he’s better the second half of the season is because that’s when he’s consistently in the lineup.
I feel like more than anything this trade is a challenge to Torts. “You hated them and wanted them gone, they’re gone. Now make it work.” |

Both Frost and Farabee have been kind of underwhelming..... yet they're the best two players in this trade (as of right now), and the picks are underwhelming. You have to wait and see what the Flyers do with the cap space and picks. This trade on face value is a loss for the Flyers.
I hope all the players involve benefit from a change of scenery.

Correct.
I mean the picks give them ammo. They have 7 picks now in the first 2 rounds for 2025. But for me, there is no reason now not to move Laughton if there is a deal out there.
Risto if you can make a deal. Funny I was watching the Calgary game and the guys talking about the trade were actually hoping Risto was involved.
Your now closer to a top 5 pick then you were yesterday. Might as well keep going down that path.
Still the top thing for me is you need to can Torts. He is a sideshow and a issue. He is a lameduck. I don't care who fills in but I would work out a deal with David Carle, let him finish out the season in Denver and then join the FLyers after.

By their process they scuttled the trade values of Frost and Farabee. Briere waited too long and Torts did his roster juggling, which did not help.
Hopefully, Briere has learned from this mistake and trades Risto at the deadline. His value is at its highest. Waiting makes no sense and will prevent the team from getting a better draft pick. Briere has already made the team worse, keep going. Laughton needs to go, his value will probably be lower then before. However, since Briere is already subtracting talent, keep going.
Otherwise, if Briere keeps over 30 yr old players instead of 25 and younger, he truly is lost. |

Acquired a cap dump, a player who was waived, and a 2nd for younger winger off a career high last season( struggling this season) and a 40 point inconsistent center. I have zero issue moving on from these 2. The return though is to me though is poor.
This also isn’t a rebuilding move. This was a trade just to get 2 guys out the coach didn’t want. Did The Flyers trade the 2 best players in this deal?
Flyers love to sell low instead of high. See Laughton and RP.
Frost and Joel were not in the Hilferty letter. Just saying.

I get into my analysis of the trade in my main blog since this is the Big NHL Story of the day.. |
|
|
|
Not really.
We'll see what they do with the cap space and picks but I would have tried another option.
Tell Torts to pound sand and bring someone else in and see if they could have got something out of these 2.
It's kind of whatever at this point. For me at least they'll drop in the standings and hopefully put themselves in a decent position for a high 1st rounder this draft. |

Chuck Fletcher - "Trades are hard"
DB - “If we force something, after 2 weeks, we can’t press undo and start from scratch again, so we gotta be sure.”
The Flyers want to be buyers. That new car smell from the "new era of orange" has gone stale. Attendance is down and they need room on the credit card to buy new shiny things.
The Flyers traded 2 young players in Torts doghouse, shocker. Meanwhile the old culture guys, Seeler, Risto, The Room are still here.
They weren't having the best years but maybe that's not all on the players. Torts and "Flyers hockey" aren't going anywhere, might as well go all in. Michkov better go block a puck with his face or he's next.
I want the Flyers to get a better draft pick but i want it to look like the FO knows what they are doing if it happens rather than accidental.
If the Flyers need cap space, then stop extending 4th liners/3rd pair players to long term contracts/NTC and buying out players because the 66 yr old coach doesn't like them. It's seems dumping 23/24 yr old kids (who we are always told need time to develop) for a sack of beans while retaining "The Culture" is counterproductive.
Also, hasn't there been extensive discussion about how bad this draft is to the point that the Flyers 1sts in the latter half of the 1st round are not that valuable in relation to what the Flyers need? So an additional 2nd moves the needle? No.
The Flyers continue to stockpile picks in a mediocre draft as fast as teams can give them away. The Flyers have always been about quantity over quality. They will become the first team to field a full lineup of grinders who play the right way (because "The Right Way" is unique to the Flyers).

Honest question Ek, what is their plan? They say one thing and then do the opposite. The coach and the gm seem to be not only not on the same page, I do nit think they are even in the same book. - corduroy
I get that. What I think many people out here seemed to feel is that this is a triumphant of leadership. And it clearly isn’t.. They aren’t building a Tortorella team. They are building a Michkov team.. Remember Briere a skilled player himself and he knows that skilled players need skilled players to play to their top levels. Look at Kasper in Detroit. He was struggling and always in the doghouse. Suddenly gets put with Raymond and Larkin and puts up points like crazy. Ville Leino here when he was put with Briere and Giroux in 2010 playoffs.
This kind of trade puts Tortorella in the hot seat. He’s not gonna love Kuzmenko’s all around game, but if Michkov and Kuzmenko start putting up points he will be forced to go with it.. and those two in the past have shown chemistry. I don’t know this for sure, but I would bet anything that they asked Michkov about Kuzmenko and he must have given a strong endorsement. |

He's probably not gonna think much of Pelletier either. Two guys from Torts' doghouse are gone, replaced by two guys who will be there shortly. |

What value is there for a 3rd line center who waits until second half to show up?
Farabee is a 3rd line wing, what was his value?

Sure, let's go with your theory but the wheels on the Flyers bus aren't going round and round anymore. Torts seems like a soft spoken go along to get along guy, worked out great for Fletcher and Torts is the face of the franchise, not DB.
Has Torts taken heat from anything he's done from the local media? Ever since the ASF incident awhile back everyone get's their talking points from Comcast. |
