Garth,

Nobody cares about this guy's "faith." Tim Tebow is sooo last year.

What role is this kid gonna play? I know nothing about him. Is he gonna be in Rochester? Is he a potential pro-goalie? That's what I want to know - not what god he worships.

The irony is one of our goalies played a great game in the tournament, not named Miller, and got no mention in the blog

I would have appreciated a blog about that. That would have been interesting.

But I guess a good ol' Canadian boy who reads the bible is more important.

Anyways, I guess Garth's blog here was a way to push Jesus and a goaltending debate. I'll bite for the latter: as far as trading Enroth goes - why? Miller's contract is up in 2 years, so trading your best goalie prospect now is ridiculous unless the return is very strong. And Jordan Staal is not that.

If Miller extends, ok. But if not, somebody has to guard the net. So trading away goalies is not a solid move, in my opinion.

Way too much for Staal. This is a guy that will be a UFA, Pens know they won't be able to resign him, and it's rumored he wants to play with his brother. His points aren't bad, but when you're the 3rd line center, you're not playing against the teams' top d-pairings. This year was the first time he's been the #2 guy, and had 50 points. He did only play 62 games, but he has never hit 50 points before playing in 82 games. In contrast, in 06-07 Roy had 21g, 42a being the 3rd line C behind those other two guys. The following year he did have 32g, 49a moving to the #1 C. I think Staal will definitely be better than Roy, but you are giving up too much. Also, if Enroth were to be traded, I would send him out West. Sabres don't do so hot against ex-Sabres, and the least we have to face him the better.

Id do the trade in a second. Staal-Hodgson-Ennis would be a potent 3 center roll

yeah, i know...

it doesn't even makes sense if you're paying attention because even if enroth was worth it for a team to trade for (they wouldn't be keen on him because he's short and that's why we'd be trading him) then you'd be ignoring the fact that there are TONS of young goalies that will all be on the market this year and could dilute what any one of them is worth. if i was a team that neglected the goalie position but had just about everything else, i'd be ecstatic that i could get a good to better than good young goalie for not very much this off season.

From that highlight reel, kid needs work. His movement in the crease is awkward, his positioning seemed suspect. Get the kid a real goalie coach and see what happens. He certainly has the physical tools.

Stall would be nice, but not for that. I'd imagine the Pens will shop this offseason for takers, but since he'll be a UFA I don't know about a team giving up a lot to make him the #1 guy. i think he can be that guy, on the right team, but unless he signs an immediate extension why risk it? I doubt they would shop him at the deadline, unless it was a very nice pick up, but bottom line they can not afford him after next year especially if the cap goes down (if thats the case I'd imagine you'll see them try and shop a few others as well).

I'd wait to jump on the wagon at the end of next year, but dangling a position they need and a mid draft pick this offseason isn't a bad idea either

I can usually handle unique, but I guess they must aren't for me. Too bad, the Highland Bowl is only like 15 minutes away from me.

Enroth, Roy, AND a first round for Staal? First of all, Pitt can't take that much of a cap hit. Second of all, that sounds like another gamble, kinda like the one that isn't working out with Leino right now. Third of all, WAY too much for Staal. Roy for Staal straight up MAYBE or Enroth and one of our seconds.

I will agree that it is an overpayment... but yours is an underpayment.

Its hard to say what would be fair value... I personally believe jordan staal is overrated.. but he is still a 50 point guy who plays physical... and is a good 2 way guy.

Maybe roy and a 1st would be fair.

Why is it a good thing that we have a fundamentalist Christian? What the hell Garth? If he's a good goalie fine but leave the BS out of it

Agreed, nobody is impressed that the guy is superstitious.

Anyway...

Pittsburgh wouldn't make that trade in a million years. They have a guy that is a special talent and might put up huge numbers on a number one line (he already does very well on the 3rd line). His playoff numbers are fantastic. Sure, he is a UFA but that only slightly diminishes his value. What would we be giving up? A broken-down center that most people want to simply cut, a mid-level goalie prospect and a draft choice. There is no way that Pittsburgh even has a conversation with us if it does not include Foligno or McNabb.
