Each team picked 7 defencemen. In Canada's case they lost both Theodore and Makar to injury so they were allowed to bring in Harley for the one game (to make it 6 d-men on the roster). They had lost Pietrangelo before the tournament started so they were able to replace him before the tourney (with Sanheim I believe).
The US lost Hughes before the tourney and replaced him with Sanderson. They still had 7 defencemen to start the tournament. Now it looks like McAvoy is out for the final game, but the US still has 6 d-men which is why they can name Hughes as a replacement IF there is 1 more injury/illness. If no injury/illness then they have to go with the 6 on the roster. There is no substituting players just to try and make the roster better. Otherwise, why even name a roster if the plan is to just substitute guys in and out of the lineup as you choose. Hey .... I know .... why not let Canada bring in Tom Wilson to deal with the poop the Tkatchuk brothers and Miller bring. |

Why? The US defense is just fine and held CAN to 1 last time. Why interrupt things?
And no: it isn't for fun. Everyone is taking this seriously, including you with your blog yesterday. |

I'm surprised at the amount of opposition to him playing. A lot of commentary about the rules as though this tournament exists to service the rules, not the other way around. We want a good game and we don't want any moaning after the fact about what ifs and the like. Let him play. |

Makar had a cold. I think Sanderson made out with him a few days ago and is coming down with something.... |

Those devious Canadians, faking a Makar illness so they could sneak in Thomas Harley |

Well, all of this Hughes blah blah doesn't matter as he has not been cleared to play hockey from his injury. So he can't even play for Vancouver yet. |

Maybe reason 11 would have swayed them. Oh well, the game will go on, but it's a shame that there's a best available player that won't be there. Already missing Draisaitl, Shesterkin, Ovechkin and a slew of other best players in the world, so what's one more? |

Canada was down 2 defensemen, USA is only down one.
We know you can't spell, but that's pretty simple math. |
