I'm trying to figure out why you would want Hemsky. He is a poor fit to the NJ system. If you take him, can I interest you in Matt Niskanen. He is younger, cheaper and somewhat plays defense.

Kovy destroyed this team...a devils team of old would never have folded like they did to the kings in 2011...it's time to go back to having our strength on the blue line...like it should be.

Hemsky's a tough call really haven't seen him play since that cup run they had. Can't say if he would be a good fit. Brunner I saw a lot more of last season thought he played solid hockey for the wings and would welcome him in. Wouldn't mind adding another winger with some size either. Felt we got pushed around a lot last season and is a reason why the kings beat us in the finals a year earlier.

Sign Henrique, Brunner and Raymond. Trade Volchenkov and Tedenby. Too lazy to check the figures, but it seems good to me.

Maybe I'm just stubborn but I want to see what Teds can do this year in what seems like his last chance.

Be foolish too completly count that kids out. The things he does wrong are all things he can improve on. Still a chance he becomes useful hopefully at least to the point where he's actually worth something and not just at best a 5thrd pick right now.

Edit: I know he can't grow but he can get stronger and be better on the puck it is possible. Odds are stacked against him no denying that though.

Are the Devil's still thinking about selling the franchise? Or did gietting rid of Kovy make that a non-issue. If that is the case then bringing in new UFAs for the same $$ doesn't make sense. I feel bad for this storied and respected franchise (being completely serious even though I am a Flyers fan). They are in a bad place after the Kovy situation with assets and $$.

In all seriousness, IF the Devils relocated. What team would Dev's fans route for? NYR since most are closest to this location? The new area that the team would be relocated to? The best team the following year that is geographically close (ie. PHI, NRY, or NYI)?

They've already agreed on terms with Newark and if memory serves, the most likely buyer is an attorney in the area. I don't see the Devils moving anytime soon.

If the devils relocated (highly unlikely) I would root for wherever they go...if I can put up with the blues love in the heart of saint louis I can put up with anything...Quebec Devils for life!

havent been on HB in awhile, but even as a rangers fan always nice to read your blogs roger!!! ive had debates with my friends (devs fans) about brunner. i think the money is too high, if its $3mil per. he's played half a season, and did very well for 15 of those 48 games. he also had the opportunity to play a decent amount with datsyuk and/or zetterberg. i understand they needed to offer more $$$ than detroit and/or other teams, but it seems high for someone not really proven yet. however the length does kind of even it out. 2 years for him to prove himself a top 6 deal. will he be able to produce without datsyuk or zetterberg? i know how the devils fanbase feels about elias, and with no disrespect elias and ryder are no datsyuk and zetterberg.
if i may also go off topic...how do you feel about phaneuff? i personally dont look very highly on him, but its more from what ive heard, havent seen him actually play much. a lot of what is said could also be because of his contract. i just dont see him as being an answer to anything, altho he would play well in their system.
lastly...how many games do you think schneider plays? i feel if brodeur says he is good to go he WILL play. if marty decides to play more, does schneider ask for a trade since it would be his 2nd team where he is a back up/splitting roles?

I think Brunner would be a good addition, the money is high, but like you said a two year deal is fine if it's $3 million. Ryder wouldn't even compare to Datsyuk or Zetterberg, but say ten years ago, I'd say Elias was as good or better than Zetterberg, but not now. I like Phaneuff, but his cap is 6.5 and we'd be in the same shot as if Kovy was still here, if we signed him for less next year I wouldn't mind it, but he probably won't get that much less if he does. Schneider, 30-40 games. If Brodeur is struggling but in Schneider, not point in keeping a guy in that is having difficultly stopping the puck, like Hedberg last year.

I think Marty and Corey will split close to 50/50, partially because unfortunately Marty will probably get an injury or 2. Difference between this and the Vancouver situation is that Marty will retire soon, possibly next year.
