Dear Ek:

Any chance you can republish your wacky predictions from the last 5 years?

Just for fun, of course.

And yes, I'm putting my money where my mouth is:

hey Eklund,

serious question:

how come JBC isn't the main habs blogger and the other guys who update their blogs once every 2 weeks pop up at the bottom once in a while?

5. James van Riemsdyk will lead the Leafs in scoring, but fall short of 50 points.

9. The Toronto Maple Leafs will NOT finish in the bottom ten of the NHL.

The shutdown defensive powerhouse known as the Toronto Maple Leafs will be in playoff contention with no scorer above 50 points. Puff puff give bro

So JVR will lead the Leafs in scoring while not hitting 50 points and yet the Leafs won't finish in the bottom 10 of the league.

So you're expecting a team with Dion Phaneuf as their best defender and Bernier as their starting goalie to win a bunch of 1-0 and 2-1 games? Well, praise Babcock I guess...

Are you forgetting we have PA Parenteau?

In case you didn't know, PA stands for "difference maker."

15. Sergei Plotnikov will have a bigger impact on the Penguins than Phil Kessel.

I've never played the game except on the street; with that in mind, I personally think there have been way too many knee-jerk predictions of 45-55 goals for Kessel this season.

But with that having been said, I can't even begin to figure out what kind of impact Plotnikov can have on the Penguins which would be bigger than even a 30 goal season (which would be considered by most to be a disappointment.....and perhaps a major one) for Kessel.

That is, unless Ek knows way more about the kid than I do......

So the prediction is that not a single leaf scores 50 points (JVR leading), but they still somehow basically contend for a playoff spot (not in bottom 10)?
Not sure that makes a whole heck of a lot of sense, but ok?

Here are my bold predictions.
CBJ and Ottawa win the east divisions.
Montreal and Detroit(finally) both miss the playoffs.

Not so bold leaf prediction: Nobody scores 50 points, Toronto does finish bottom 10, and the team they ice this Wednesday will look vastly different form the team they ice after the trade deadline.
