I think it is painfully obvious that the team is better off with Wideman in the line up. As pointed out in the blog, the main concern for leaving him out was how it would impact the PK. Well, the sens are 2nd in times short handed and 25th in pk %. So things can't get much worse there. If you can't kill penalties, maybe you should avoid taking them. Sens have been taking too many for a long time now. Being unable to kill them has cost them games already this year. How many are they willing to give up?
The Smith penalties in the win were bad. The Neil panalty ( while initiated by Mrazek ) was a stupid penalty to take because there is no reason he needed to be skating through the blue paint in the first place. Sens have been burned by a few iffy calls, but they have also taken some bonehead penalties.
Combine this with the terrible PP lately, and the problem with the season thus far becomes clear. It's tough to say where the sens would be sitting if they achieved even average special teams performance, but their situation would be a bit more comfortable, I'm sure.
I think the team can survive without Hoffman, MacArthur, or Lazar. Even two of them. But having all three out hurts the team badly. Lines are left unbalanced. Players aren't slotted into their ideal position in the lineup. |

To follow-up from the last thread...
"Best place to get Sens tickets? And go.. "
Erik6Karlsson5
Through me!
I have 2 season seats for over 10 years but since my 2nd child's arrival, I don't have as much time to go to games so I sell half the games of my seasons seats...
They are great seats located in Section 320, Row A (2 seats)!
I sell them cheaper then Capital Tickets AND also include a FREE parking pass ($15 value!)
I still have 12 games for sale, PM me if interested... |

Neil started the year 'a new man'. He went five straight games without taking a minor penalty.
Since then, he's back to being a liability for this team. He has now gone 5 of 6 games taking at least one stupid minor penalty. These aren't 'good' back checking penalties that save a goal, or even 'unlucky' penalties like a high stick when simply trying to battle in the corners, or even 'hard' penalties where he hits a guy but it's called boarding or something.
For the most part, his penalties are just flat out boneheaded. Then, he always gives the 'who me?' look while he skates to the box. So infuriating.
Neil, your name is (frank)ing Chris Neil. Refs are NEVER going to give you the benefit of the doubt. Stop being an idiot and a liability... please.. No refs or fans are falling for your stupidity.
He must be one hellova leader in that room to be wearing an 'A', cause the guy sure as hell doesn't 'lead by example'. |

I just saw the hit. Didn't seem to be any intent on Stones part, the head did get hit in the end though. There's 0 consistency in this league on this so who knows.
Really hope hoffman will be be back. |

lucky he only got 2. guy is out of control. |

He got suspended because of the follow through.
Problem is that he was off balance and that's why his arm came up. Anyone who has ever been on skates knows your arms tend to flail and come up when you lose balance.
He lost balance because (as Cameron said) Zetterberg played a pick on him and forced him to the side.
This call is total garbage. In the official NHL video, they basically say that Stone never intended to hurt anyone but he was 'reckless'.....
Um.. I remember a time when a guy named Matt Cooke was pretty (frank)ing reckless and got zero games.
At any rate, it's all about star power. Zetterberg elbowed Pageau right in the face on Friday and got no penalty, hearing or suspension. Stone trips into a guy and gets 2 games. |

pretty sure Zetterberg was still angry about getting his face smashed into the boards last year by cowen with no suspension(i think). Stone clearly thrusts his shoulder into ferraros head. thats why he is suspended. if he was so off balance how does he manage to throw a hit? get real and stop crying. |

So how does this absolve Zetterberg for his hit on pageau? The league discipline in the NHL blows, no surprise here as another Senators gets suspended for practically the same play a detroit player is involved with one day prior (no penalty OR suspension)
Seems teams like detroit & montreal can get away with anything when it comes to playing ottawa.

Oh get off your high horse... Methot makes a living from hitting from behind or in the head and no one says anything. |

Stone's suspension is questionable when looked at in isolation, but totally ludicrous when compared to the nasty elbow from Zetterberg on Pageau.
GIF/Video comparison anyone? |

Dave Cameron says the NHL reviewed the Zetterberg hit (on Pageau) and says they told club it was a clean hit. - Ian Mendez via twitter
I don't know if I understand the rules anymore...
EDIT - Not saying the stone hit wasn't a headshot, but Zetterberg seems to have gotten off without any punishment at all. Not even a phone call about the incident. |

That's truly terrible. He targets the head, uses his elbow, and leaves his feet.

One can conclude based on the movements. Regardless, using his elbow and targeting the head seems pretty clear and should be enough to warrant discipline.
