Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't that make McDavid the youngest captain in history? I dunno, this might be one of those situations where you say you're starting the season with three alternate captains and then go from there.

Give the damn thing to Hendricks. He only has a year left and is obviously a leader among the team just from what we've seen on the ice.
If he gets extended it likely won't be for long, so McDavid will have a few more years to adjust. If he doesn't get extended then it gives McDavid another year anyway.

Win win.

This may be pretty breaking news for you but the whole captain thing doesn't really matter.

Not dogging him, because he's a really talented kid, but how could McDavid be the captain? He hasn't played a full season yet.

I would see how things go, but would put the "C" on Lucic and let McDavid develop into his own leader. This core of young guys needs a gritty/skilled vet like Lucic to rally behind. If he's ready to take over from Lucic down the road, then do that. But let him find his path and gain the respect of those around him first.

I don't think anyone cares but if the Oilers have to choose anyone it should be Zack Kassian

They did that last year. Both Chiarelli and McLellan have said there will be a captain this year. CmD appears inevitable, but there have been rumblings made about Lucic or Eberle. By season's end last year it was pretty obvious who was leading the team on the ice and more than one player has already reffered to McDavid as 'our leader'. They could go with someone else, but it's McDavid's team.

Putting the fate of the franchise on the back of a 19 year old and asking him develop a new culture ? That basically happened the day he became an Oiler so they may as well make it official and slap the C on him. The only other logical choice would be Hendricks, then he can hand it over to McDavid in a year or two.

I like the idea of Lucic. Dude definitely has the temperament of the person I want leading the Oil!

Kassian would be a close second.
