Edmonton Oilers coach Todd McLellan recently told the media that the team would name a Captain for the upcoming season.
In this edition of the hotstove we discuss which player should wear the 'C'.

I think it has to be Connor McDavid.
I'm not sure I'd want to put the 'C' on him this soon but if there is anyone that can handle the extra pressure it is him. He has been under the microscope his whole career and it's never gotten to him so I don't think the 'C' would, either.
Naming another player Captain then stripping said player of the 'C' a couple years down the road to give it to McDavid seems like a dumb idea.
He is the face of the franchise, has been a Captain before and, again, if anyone can handle the extra pressure it is him.

Well let's hope it's McDavid and let's hope it's not McDavid. The Oilers have few choices now that they have traded Taylor Hall. they are a young team with loads of talent that doesn't seem to change their fortune. So how do the pick from the McDavid, Eberle, Nugent-Hopkins, Klefbom, Draisaitl list of talent?
Good luck coach Todd it won't be easy so why just default to McDavid which is what you want to do but didn't think you would have to do it so soon. The guy does not deserve to take on the heavy weight of leading this group but maybe its just a fresh start that needs to happen for the team and organization. I'd give it to Eberle simply so the trade talk around him dies down because he's the captain right?
