Don't think Maatta and Fehr get it done. I don't think they would want Fehr. |

Risky move, All signs points to Pouliot being a great player but he's not there yet.
Also, I don't know if Maatta and Fehr get it done. The good thing is that either way Maatta is signed for a very good price. |

Totally different scenarios with opposite reactions of how they should be viewed.
Drouin was a great talent that was sent to the AHL
Trouba is a great talent that was playing 22 min a night in the NHL
For some reason, Drouin got bashed, and Trouba gets sympathy. It's baffling.
He wants out of WPG. It's the city, not his usage. |

Don't forget bout the expansion draft.... Pens can only protect 3 dmen... So if pouliot has a good season, he'll prolly get taken in the expansion draft.. Assuming pens protect letang, dumoulin and maatta as they should |

Dumo-letang
Pouliot-trouba...
Bottom part still huge question marks.
I keep maatta and his 1.5-2million cheaper contract any day.

Trouba wants a contract nearing 6 mil. Olli is much cheaper and is pretty much as good a hockey player. Lateral move that would add to the payroll and we're not at the point where we can count on Pouliot. Stay status quo on defense and let someone learn the right side. |

Bottom pair is way easier to fill than a 2nd pairing right side D. |

It's cause Tampa is run by Yzerman. He can do no wrong. I didn't bash Drouin, I was on his side too. |

As was I.
I just find it funny how people act like Trouba was used as a 5th defender, he was there 2nd go to guy some nights.
I mean, the dude is good but he didn't exactly light up the league. He was maybe there 2nd best defensive defensemen, and there 3rd best offensive D man.
So he was used as the 2nd or 3rd D man any given night. What's the issue? |

Winnipeg already had Fehr once and it didn't work out...at all. As someone who resides in Winnipeg, Maatta as a basis for a trade intrigues me. Maata and Laine are both Finnish, so it's something that could make the Jets rookie more comfortable. |

Do people really not see why RW is all over this and thinks it's a great idea? I has absolutely nothing to do with Trouba or Maata, it's all about Pouliot and creating a scenario for him to be in the top 4 whether his play warrants it or not. RW is infatuated with Pouliot and is in favor of any move that opens up a spot for Pouliot regardless of the quality of the move itself. |

The issue is that he doesn't want to live in Winnipeg.
The "usage" thing is a PC cover for it. |

Pouliot has already said he's comfortable playing the right side, so I'm not sure how swapping Maata for Trouba changes things drastically. |

I do think that something could be worked out, but I don't think its as easy as Maatta+Fehr for Trouba, I think they'd have to try and find another taker for Fehr, and add something else to Maatta for WPG to be interested. |

The whole situation seems odd to me because Trouba claims it isn't about money or WPG and that's it's 100% about usage and his desire to play on the right side. If that really is the case then there should really be no issue here, WPG should offer him 5-5.5M/year with the guarantee of playing RD which is where he should be playing as a RHS anyway.

Haven't been on the boards in like 2 months but in a vacuum, I would rather have Trouba than Maatta. Right side D, similiar upside, and would be one of our most physical defenseman as well. Maatta just worries me with the injuries and that slowed first step.
Contingent on getting a deal done in the $5M range long term, I'd do it.
P.S. has everyone that said we needed to trade Fleury at the draft now realized why that wasnt a good idea?

Everyone here was female doging about Maatta being too slow in the playoffs. I think trouba is the better player and if trouba took a deal for around 5mil for 6 years, I'd definitely use Maatta as trade bait.
Then again, if there was a way to get trouba without trading Maatta, that could be doable (cap wise) with Kunitz, Daley, scuderi and probably fleurys contract coming off the books next year. I just feel it'd cost sprong and a 1st at the very least |

I still thought it was a good idea and then sign enroth. I'd be ok with enroth being a starter for a couple weeks until Murray came back |

Well yeah, that's because Trouba is better than Maatta hahaha |
