On number 2 overall picks and their production since 1995...
This is not aimed at you as I'm only using this as the latest comment on this topic of conversation.
Previously, I posted my findings on top 5 picks and the average development time it took each pick to reach their own respective full potentials going back to the 1995 draft.
This morning, I looked at number 2 picks specifically from 1995 to 2011 (using number 2 picks from 2012 to current does not allow the normal amount of development time to provide a full picture).
Below is what I found for number 2 picks from 1995-2011 regarding their max production, minimum production, average production, and peak average production.
Position Max PROD Min. PROD Ave. PROD PEAK Ave.
Forward 82.8 54.0 63.2 67.3
Defense 46.3 27.3 32.8 36.4
Interesting that the average production and average peak production are between 63-67 points.
The two least regarded, as I would classify them, of the number 2 picks that are forwards would be Legwand and Bobby Ryan. Perhaps some would count Jordan Staal in that grouping as well.
How many would be satisfied if Reinhart ended up averaging 65 points for his production annually? Doesn't seem like many, and yet that is what the numbers say is the average. - kingcong39
To add to this, the entire list of forwards taken number 2 overall between 1995 & 2011 is below, listed in order.
Patrick Marleau, David Legwand, Daniel Sedin, Dany Heatley, Jason Spezza, Eric Staal, Evgeni Malkin, Bobby Ryan, Jordan Staal, James van Riemsdyk, Tyler Seguin, Gabriel Landeskog |

The Buffalo News' Vic Carucci reports "every indication from within One Bills Drive" is that Buffalo has settled on promoting OC Anthony Lynn to head coach in 2017.
According to Carucci, the Bills aren't going to get serious outside interest in the head-coaching post because prospective "big-name" candidates don't want to work with GM Doug Whaley. As the leader of the "search," Whaley's job appears secure, and he will maintain control of the 53-man roster. That won't fly with guys like Josh McDaniels, Jon Gruden, Tom Coughlin, and any other "name" candidate. McDaniels allegedly has interest, but he wants control of the roster. Lynn would be getting his first coaching opportunity, so he'd be in no position to make those demands. He's the heavy favorite in the clubhouse for the full-time gig.
Why make the team better, just keep Whaley . What a joke |

Agreed. Just leads to spreading yourself too thin/causing more stress than necessary. |

11 points in his last 13 games, and since I saw so much grief written about his "boneheaded play", he has 15 PIM in those 14 games (5 of which were last night).
Added "fun" (?) note - Buffalo has gotten points in each of the games he has PIMs in that span. |

What about the 1st forward taken in every class? Which Reinhart was.
We had the pick of forwards
So far Reinhart and Bennett's development looks stagnant compared to some others others
Draisaitl has jumped from a .70 PPG pace last year, to a .86PPG pace this year
Nikolai Ehlers went from a .52 PPG pace last year, to a .81 PPG pace this year
William Nylander is in his rookie year, at a .68 ppg pace
Reinhart has went from a .53 PPG pace last year, to .58 PPG pace this year.
He's following the exact same trajectory as Robbi Fabbri, who was selected 21st overall that year.
